Switch your QuickBooks file between Mac and Windows

SOLVEDby QuickBooks1Updated over 1 year ago

Learn how to move your QuickBooks file between Mac and Windows.

When you move your data file from QuickBooks for Mac to QuickBooks for Windows and then back to Mac., it's known as round-tripping.

This may happen if your accountant uses QuickBooks for Windows but you don't.

When you're accountant has your file:

  • Hold off on installing any QuickBooks updates until you get your file back.
  • Try not to enter anything new while your accountant has your file. This way you don't lose any records when you get your file back.

How to round-trip

  1. Move your QuickBooks for Mac file to QuickBooks for Windows.
  2. Send your company file to your accountant so they can make changes in QuickBooks for Windows.
  3. Restore the QuickBooks for Windows file from your accountant to QuickBooks for Mac.

If you run in to any issues when you restore your file, have your accountant send you the file again. This can resolve most issues.
