What’s new in QuickBooks Desktop 2024

Learn what’s new in QuickBooks Desktop 2024 and QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 24.0.

We've revamped our release process so you no longer have to:

Wait for an annual release to get access to improvements and enhancements
Take time away from your business to install a new version-year on all your computers

Now, instead of an annual release, you'll get a message within QuickBooks Desktop to install the latest updates as soon as they're available. Simply accept the periodic in-product update notifications to make sure you have the latest feature and security updates.

Here are the features included in the QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise and how you can use them to benefit your business.

Transaction improvement

Estimate Inactivation

We aim to help customers be more efficient and productive with existing transactions and transaction templates by showing the vendor on all the sales forms.

Invoice inactivation

Users can mark an estimate as inactive when generating a sales order or non-progressing invoice from it. This simplifies processes, saves time, and eliminates confusion by ensuring outdated estimates don’t remain active

New Shipping Manager

Starting December 7, 2025, the Old Shipping Manager in QuickBooks will no longer be available. To keep using shipping tools, switch to the New Shipping Manager. If you don't see it, make sure your QuickBooks Desktop is up to date.

QBFAM Added Support

We’ve added support for TY25 in QuickBooks Fixed Asset Manager to help you stay compliant and manage your fixed assets with ease

VA mandatory Job Title

The "Job Title" field in the Employee Profile is now mandatory for all employees subject to Virginia (VA) payroll taxes. You’ll be required to enter a job title before saving or updating records for Virginia-based employees.

1099 Misc

The Account Mappings for “Excess golden parachute” which is currently Box 14 of Form 1099-MISC have been moved to Box 3 of Form 1099-NEC to meet the latest 1099 form changes requirements.

Invoice Profitability Report (QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise only)

See the precise profit generated from every single transaction, not just the overall job. Easily find your most and least profitable invoices and services, so you know where to focus your efforts.

Email Enhancement

Set customer contacts as default email recipients for your transactions. Your last used email address is automatically saved as the default email recipient for that transaction.

Use alternate vendors in QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions

If you work with multiple vendors, it's important to keep track of prices and lead times. You can use alternate vendors to match vendor items with inventory, and compare and choose vendors with ease.

Manage Enhanced Inventory Receiving (QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise only)

This Enterprise-only feature streamlines inventory accounting by creating an inventory offset liability account, which keeps item receipts from bills.

Email sales forms, invoices, and statements in QuickBooks Desktop

Quickly access and select the appropriate contact email directly from the transaction window, eliminating the need to manually look up email addresses.

Release 13 (R13) 2/25/2025

Item profitability report (QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise only)

You can now compare quantity sold, cost, sales price, and planned vs. actual markup and margin in one view.

Custom field improvements (QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise only)

You can now filter reports using text or dropdown lists. We've also improved the error handling for custom fields to prevent entering or filtering by invalid data. For example, entering a date in a number type custom field or filtering by a number in a date custom field.

System configuration settings

You can go to Help and select System Configuration to adjust Windows system settings from within QuickBooks Desktop.

Search in reports

At the top right of any report, you'll see a Look for field. You can select this field and enter any text or number to find specific info in a report.
