Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Enterprise

Learn how to upgrade to a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop from within the program.

If you need to upgrade QuickBooks Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Enterprise, we’ll show you how. If you want to buy QuickBooks, select the QuickBooks best for you. After you buy QuickBooks, you can start the upgrade tool.

Upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop subscription

When a new version of QuickBooks is available, you'll get a message when you open QuickBooks. We make it simple for you to upgrade.

1. When you’re ready, select Upgrade Now.
2. Select Keep old version on my computer if you want to keep your current QuickBooks. Then select Let’s go. QuickBooks downloads, installs, and activates the new version for you. It updates your company file(s).
3. When the upgrade is done, select Open QuickBooks.

Note: The upgrade may take some time. It depends on your internet speed and size of your company file(s).

Use the Discovery Hub to upgrade

1. Open the Discovery Hub, then select Upgrade to QuickBooks 2024.
2. Select Proceed to upgrade, then Upgrade now.
3. If you want both versions, select Keep old version on my computer . Leave blank otherwise.
4. Once complete, select Open QuickBooks.

Upgrade tool can't find my QuickBooks Desktop purchase

Find and enter your license number

If you don't get a prompt to choose a new QuickBooks version, you’ll need to enter your QuickBooks license info. This happens when you buy QuickBooks with a different email than you use for your QuickBooks Desktop account. Here’s what to do:

1. Find the purchase confirmation email from QuickBooks.
2. Enter the License Number and Product Number, then select Continue to finish the upgrade.

To find your license info, sign in to the customer account maintenance portal (CAMPs).

You can get the latest version of QuickBooks desktop from the QuickBooks Desktop Manager. You can select and install all your QuickBooks products.

Upgrade QuickBooks within the Rightworks hosting environment

As the account owner or admin, you can install QuickBooks for yourself or others. If you're a standard user, you can only install QuickBooks for yourself.

Install QuickBooks for Rightworks account owners and admins:

1. Sign in to Rightworks My account with your email address and password.
2. Select Users.
3. Select the specific user you want to apply the license to.
4. Within the user detail page, select Apps you can install.
   Note: Rightworks displays all QuickBooks versions available to you. Use the search bar to quickly find the version.
5. Select the correct QuickBooks version, then select Install. Once it installs, you'll get a prompt and you'll see a shortcut on your desktop.

The user may need to sign off and on again to access the new QuickBooks installation.

Install QuickBooks for Rightworks standard users:

1. Sign in to Rightworks My account with your email address and password.
2. Select Apps you can install.
3. Use the search bar to quickly find the QuickBooks version you need to install, then select the app.
4. Select Install App. Once it installs, you'll get a prompt and you'll see a shortcut on your desktop.

The next time you sign in to the remote environment using your email address and password, you'll see QuickBooks on your desktop. If you don't see it, try re-adding the app. You may need to sign off and on again to access the new QuickBooks installation.
