Change primary principal for Basic, Standard, and Enhanced Payroll

Learn how to request a direct deposit primary principal change in QuickBooks Desktop.

There's several reasons you may need to change the primary principal for your direct deposit.

  • Listed principal is no longer with the company.
  • Board members or company officers have changed.
  • Authorized bank signors have changed.

You can also add a primary principal. We show you how to do both.

Change the primary principal

If the request is to replace the current principal, both the current principal and the new principal must sign the request letter. If the current principal isn't available to sign the letter, please indicate the name of the old principal, and the reason in your request letter.

Requirements to change primary principal include:

  1. Complete Primary Principal change form.
  2. A request letter signed by all principals on the company letterhead explaining the reason for the principal change.
  3. Photocopy of the new principal's government-issued ID.
  4. Contact QuickBooks Desktop payroll support to submit the form and other requirements above via Intuit File Exchange.

Add a secondary principal

This is recommended for companies where payroll is managed by an accountant.

Requirements to add a Secondary Principal include:

  1. Completed Primary Principal change form.
  2. A request letter signed by both primary and secondary principals on the company letterhead stating that they will be adding another principal.
  3. Photocopy of both primary and secondary principals' government-issued ID.
  4. Contact QuickBooks Desktop payroll support to submit the form and other requirements above via Intuit File Exchange.

Processing takes three to five business days from the date the complete requirements are received. Please wait for an email confirming the status of your request.

Incomplete documents might delay Intuit's ability to process your request.

You will be required to provide your Social Security number and date of birth on the Primary Principal Change Form. Federal law and our banking partners require us to collect this information. We can't process your change without it. Intuit protects this information according to our security policy. We may share this information with trusted third parties for screening purposes. And when we do so, we encrypt and transmit it securely.
