Error: Sorry we need to verify your subscription before installing QuickBooks Desktop

When installing or updating your QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions, you may receive one of the following error messages:"Error: Sorry, we need to verify your subscription before installing QuickBooks Desktop."-OR-"Error: Sorry, it looks like you need a subscription to install QuickBooks Desktop."-OR-"Error: We are sorry, it looks like you need a subscription to start using QuickBooks Desktop."If the error does not occur on all workstations, it could indicate an issue with a Windows user or a third-party application blocking QuickBooks processes, or there is an issue with the installation of the .NET Framework. If the error occurs on all computers, contact support. We recommend more than one solution for this issue. For best results, follow the solutions in the order shown.

Note: Before performing the troubleshooting steps below, make sure to:

Solution 1: Reset Internet Explorer settings

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Go to the Tools menu, then choose Internet Options.Note: Press Alt on your keyboard if the menu bar is not showing.
  3. From the Advanced tab, choose Reset or Restore Defaults.
  4. Select Apply, then OK.

Solution 2: Use the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic tool

Solution 3: Manually disable the firewall and/or antivirus software

  1. Disable your firewall.
  2. Turn off your antivirus software.Note: Some antivirus software cannot be disabled while others require certain rights to make changes. Refer to the manufacturer's user guide or website for further details on how to temporarily disable and potentially configure your software.
    1. Locate the icon for the third-party antivirus in the system tray at the bottom right of the Desktop screen.
    2. Right-click on the icon, then select Disable.
  3. Install QuickBooks Desktop or run the update again.

Solution 4: Create a new Windows Admin user

  1. Create a Windows user with Administrator rights.
  2. Install QuickBooks Desktop or run the update again.

Solution 5: Install QuickBooks Desktop in Selective Startup

Follow the steps in Install QuickBooks Desktop in Selective Startup.

Solution 6: Install certificates

Using Google Chrome:

  1. Go to
  2. From the address bar, select the padlock symbol.
  3. SelectView Certificates.
  4. In the Certification Path tab, select the Symantec Class 3 Secure Server CA – G4 item.
  5. Select View Certificate, then Install Certificate.
  6. The Certificate Import wizard opens. Follow the default options to import.
  7. Once a window prompting a successful import shows, select OK.
  8. Close the certificate windows, then retry installing or updating.

Using Internet Explorer:

Note: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the install and import.

  1. Go to the Tools menu, then select Internet Options.
  2. Go to the Content tab, then choose Certificates.
  3. Go to the Intermediate Certification Authorities tab.
  4. Find and select Symantec Class 3 Server CA - G4.
  5. Choose View Certificate, then Install.
  6. Retry installing or updating.
