What is Data Mapping?
Data Mapping (definition)
Data mapping is the process of aligning and matching data fields from one system or database to corresponding fields in another system to ensure accurate data transfer or integration. This process is critical when migrating data from one platform to another, such as importing data into QuickBooks Online (QBO) from an external system. Each field, such as "Customer Name" or "Supplier Phone Number," must match correctly between the old and new systems to preserve data accuracy and usability. QBO uses the header row in CSV files to identify and map fields during the import process. To simplify this, QBO provides sample import templates that guide users in structuring their data for seamless mapping and migration. Proper data mapping ensures consistency, eliminates errors, and enables smooth system integration.
