What payment methods are available in QuickBooks?
QuickBooks Online requires a valid payment method for subscription management and accepts the following:
- Credit/debit cards: Visa, Mastercard, and American Express
- Electronic payments: PayPal, pre-authorized debits
Here are some requirements and limits for payment methods:
- Billing address: You must use a billing address that matches your region. This address doesn’t need to match the billing address in your QuickBooks settings.
- Card limits: You can use only one card per payment.
View subscription or update payment profile
You can update your account name, billing address, or credit card expiration at any time.
- Go to Settings âš™ and select Subscriptions and billing.
- Review the details in each section.
- Find the Payment method section and select the edit icon ✎.
- Choose to add a new payment method, switch to a previous one, or update your current details.
- Follow the next steps to save your changes.
Here are the important details for specific billing types:
- Bundled subscriptions: If you bundle QuickBooks Online with QuickBooks Online Payroll, updating your card details updates them for both products.
- Intuit Payment Wallet: If you use the wallet, you can manage payment methods for all your Intuit subscriptions in one place.
- Apple Billing: If you pay through iTunes, Apple may charge a new card automatically when your issuer updates your details.
Notes on billing:
- The billing history will be displayed in chronological order starting with the most recent bill.
- Billing statements are visible the day after the billing date, not the same day.
- If you signed in as an Accountant you won't be able to download the billing Portable Document Format (PDF) file for a client who pays for their own subscription.
Change your billing schedule
You can choose a monthly billing cycle or receive a 10% discount by paying annually.
- Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
- Go to SettingsÂ
and select Subscriptions and billing. - Select Subscribe and enter the required information.
- In the subscription summary, select Annual Billing or Monthly Billing.
- Select Subscribe, then select Done.
Note: If you switch from annual to monthly, there may be a 30-day wait before the next payment. Switching plans triggers a refund for any unused portion of your previous plan. For payroll subscriptions, the annual option applies only to the base fee—employee and provincial fees remain monthly.
Download your Intuit invoices
You can view the last 6 months of bills and download your Intuit invoice as a PDF file.
- Go to Settings âš™ and select Subscriptions and billing (Take me there).
- Select View payment history.
- Find the invoice you want to download.
- Select Select invoice, then select Export to PDF.
- Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
Troubleshoot billing and subscription issues
Review these common scenarios if you encounter issues with your account.
- Error messages: If you see an error message or blank screen while updating details, ensure all fields for subscription and billing are entered correctly, including the billing address.
- Google Play subscriptions: You can't cancel subscriptions purchased through the Google Play Store within the QuickBooks mobile app. You must cancel directly from Google Play.
- Expired cards: Charges may sometimes occur on expired cards—contact your bank or card issuer if you have problems.
