i have a first time filer entered Canada 2023. When i tried to submit his return its giving me an error code of 110-B . I contacted efile helpdesk but no luck they cant give me any information to solve this problem. I was advice to contact the client for them to call CRA general inquiry to find out what exactly the name they have onfile but since first time filer CRA dont have a any records of anything. I tried everything putting middle name and checking first time filer. Client even gave me a copy of his SIN but no luck. Can anyone please guide me on how to solved this problem. Thank you
Same with us. Now we have multiple clients with this issue and waiting for a solution. Please look into it asap.
Same issue for my clients, Does Intuit team know about this issue? Efile representative told me it may be software issue. Is it at CRA end or software issue?
Till date there is no resolution on this error. According to CRA this is an error with the software as Efile Helpdesk has no solution on this error. Most of the cases it happened due to the name of the client, client only have first name or last name. In both case name should be repeated as names can not be blank. Profile team please look into this ASAP.
CRA advised that a first-time filer's name must be entered exactly as it appears on their SIN card. An initial for a middle name is unacceptable if the SIN card has a full middle name.
It won't work unfortunately. Even though the name entered exactly what it shown in SIN card. The problem is elsewhere. There should be some technical problem either in the Profile software or at CRA ends. I have more than 5 files now that can not be accepted. Last resort is to send paper return, if there is no fix to this problem asap.
We get fair numbers of new immigrants and inernational students so we have a bigger number. It is very frustrating as you may lose clients if you can't provide timely service while other than Profile Tax program user do not seem to have any problem.
Hi all,
This not a ProFile specific error. There is nothing to fix since other software are receiving the same error. The advice from CRA is to make sure the full name matches the most recent SIN card. Enter the first and last name in the Info tab, top section. Do not enter a middle name their: ProFile implemented a field for the middle name that appears when first time filer is selected.
We have checked to make sure all names are as on SIN. Authorize A Represent form has been accepted for all of these returns with the this info., but not tax returns.
After trying multiple times with EFILE Help desk, this problem is now fixed. Earlier if a tax client has only first name, same name should have entered as last name in the file. This time, if the client has either only first name or last name, enter only the name as shown in their SIN record issued by Service Canada. No need to enter the same name twice as previous years. This will resolve the error and you will be able to efile.
Finally able to Efile without changing anything. Whatever glitch there was is cleared.
how did you do it?
how?
What you need to do to avoid this error
If the SIN number document issued by Service Canada shows only First name
then put only the first name in Profile, leave the last name blank
Alternatively, if the client has only last name
then put only the last name in Profile, leave the first name blank
Now you will be able to file the return as normal
Do not forget to check that your client is filing for the first time.
this i the latest communication that we received from CRA:
Safeguards to protect taxpayer information
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) takes the protection, privacy and security of Canadians’ information very seriously.
As the CRA continues to invest in security and enhance its technologies, processes and controls, additional identification validations have been put in place for the 2024 filing season (2023 tax year).
First-time filer validations
First-time filer validations have been enhanced for EFILE for the 2023 tax year. Taxpayer’s identity information such as first name (given name), if applicable, middle name (second name), if applicable, last name (family name) and date of birth must be an exact match to the identification information as issued under their social insurance number for the return to be accepted and for the taxpayer’s identification information to be updated on CRA records.
For first-time filer individuals with one name only, tax preparers may add the name in the last name (family name) field and leave the other name fields blank.
For any unsuccessful transmission, new response message 110-B will be returned. Please verify your client’s identity information – first name (given name), if applicable, middle name (second name), if applicable, last name (family name) and date of birth. Should the error persist following unsuccessful attempts, we recommend filing the 2023 Income Tax and Benefit Return in paper form.
This is extremely frustrating. I have to do multiple paper returns today because of the error code 110-B. The names are exact match from the SIN card as well as the passport and other legal documents and T4 and T2202 but it does NOT allow to be efiled. This error code keeps popping up. I do lots of students and new comers and it is a nightmare. Please someone help.
sorry to hear that, we are now able to Efile every newcomer return, Sometimes it takes couple of tries as Middle name, tried putting in with last name then put it in right under where you mark taxpayer filing first time.
If you do need to paperfile, make sure to add the rejected Efile message that say you can paperfile otherwise there may be penalty for paperfiling if you Efile number.
Can you give me example of how an exact name is written on SIN without giving my the SIN number
First Name
Middle Name
Family Name
first name
middle name
family name Parbh Rajput
This is how it shows.
Oh so I should enter Parbh Rajput in the last name space and first name space should be left blank?
What about the middle name space below first time filer question?
This year we have to put info. exactly as it shows in SIN. Previous years we could put something in first name not this year. Almost 90% new students we deal with have also put their info. in SIN and study permit as you have shown by putting full name in family name and leaving rest blank, I don't know if they don't understand this question when applying for student visa.
Try Efile with putting info. like this:
first name: Leave Blank
middle name: Leave Blank
family name: Parbh Rajput (Put it exactly on SIN, if space between Prabh and Rajput then put space, if no space then don't put space)
Hope this helps.
this one works. thank you
Thank you so very much for taking the time in helping me out. I really appreciate it. Your solution has worked and solved my dilemma. Once again THANK YOU very much
Same problem
on sin document
FIRST NAME: NIYAZI
MIDDLE NAME: CEM
LAST NAME: KIZAR
what i need to put in firstname and last name? there is NO space for a middle name on EFILE
Good day, I have seen many solutions, mine is not the best, but it is most accurate with CRA requirements.
1. Enter the client name as stated on their SIN, first name and last name (ignore middle or second name on the SIN).
2. Select check mark to indicate first time filer; this will activate the middle name field.
3. Now, enter the middle name or second name in this field.
Do not file an income tax with the first or last name field blank, that is not correct process even if it works; you or the client may have difficulty with CRA later.
At the beginning after many unsucccesful tries of filing newcomer returns with Last Name only written in SIN and passport and immigrantion documents (we checked all 3 to see how the name was written), contacted Efile desk, other taxfilers contact too with similar problem. Efile desk desk the email release to all Efiler which Mario B posted in this post (please check his post 2 weeks ago). Upon contacting Efile desk I was told that we have to put the name as per legal papers and con't put any name in any box. I was told if client insists on putting first name then Efile won't be accepted. For name change, client has to contact CRA.
Once we started following that, we have been able to file all returns.
Some people truly don't have a middle name. If you've confirmed this with the SIN card, in the middle name field that pops up when first-time filer is checked, try space then enter. Then clear any efile errors and then try again to efile.
