A lot of my clients have not received their CPP and OAS slips from Service Canada for the 2021 tax year. One of my clients called Service Canada yesterday and was told that indeed, there was a delay, and that his slips were mailed on February 28, 2022.
I wonder if other tax preparers have noticed this problem?
Yes, many were late. However, they did seem to show up in AutoFill, well before the hard-copies were received.
Thanks for your reply. Yes, they were available online/on AutoFill, but most such clients are obviously elderly, and many are not Internet savvy.
Ummm YOU do the Auto fill and NOT the Elderly !!!!
So not need for THEM to be Tech Savvy--need YOU charging them to know how to do Auto fill
I do have signed authorization for all T1 clients and use the AutoFill function.
Then the AGE or their ability to use a computer would have NO BEARING on if they were mailed the slips or not.
Unless you can explain a legitimate reason THEIR ability to use a computer would have any bearing on YOU getting their information ???
Just asking as YOU made it sound like THEY could not get the slips and THAT would be what they are PAYING YOU to take care of
"Ummm YOU do the Auto fill and NOT the Elderly !!!!"
I know that... but they do NOT realized that I can do it. In the past there was no need to do Auto Fill for them, with only 2 or 3 slips.
There are a lot of clients of all ages reluctant to give the tax preparer access to their CRA account. THEY want to stay in control. WE do offer this service to clients who want to give us access. I find the other remarks very condescending.
Sorry you feel that way--your CLIENTS PAY YOU to do everything you can for them. The other person said they HAD T1013's on ALL clients so no reason for them NOT to pull the slips.
The fact YOU cannot get your clients to give you authorization says more about how much they trust YOU rather than the system, but if that make you feel better, go for it.
My clients PAY for a SERVICE and I give them the BEST service they can get !
Maybe that is why I am a 1 man show and have already filed over 500 returns so far and a long way to go
It has been my experience that elderly clients are generally very conscientious and methodical, waiting until they have all their slips. Certainly I can use Rep a Client and/or AutoFill to get the information, but slips not arriving causes confusion and worry for the elderly who are trying their best to be independent. The T4A with the $500 for the over-75s hasn't shown up either. It makes me wonder what other slips Service Canada has managed to not send out properly - T4E's and T4A's for CRB, etc, spring to mind. Not everyone is computer-savvy, and pushing "My Account" is going to disadvantage a lot of taxpayers.

Great West: Whereas most of my clients have no problem giving me access to their CRA account, some don’t want to do so or ask a lot of questions. I perfectly understand them and respect their decision 100%.
Personally, I’d be extremely reluctant to give access to my CRA account to any tax preparation firm. If I had to do so, I’d revoke such authorization as soon as my tax return has been assessed.
Besides, based on my recent CRA auto-fill experience, a lot of slips (especially T5 and T3) are not available online yet.
It’s now March 14 , I still have not received my tax slips.
I agree with Jack_Canada and jrbooks. It is irrelevant who is offering the Representative option to use the AFR function. The purpose of this forum is to collaborate and share information and tips, it is not intended for people to put each other down. Opinions are great, and allow us to see things from different perspectives, but they should be constructive, not negative.
Just yesterday and today (March 14 & 15, 2022) I had about 10 clients who had not received any CPP and OAS slips. Even though some had given me authorization years ago, they were still waiting for the slips, not realizing I could get them from the CRA. Apparently Service Canada has not been sending them on time, if at all.
March 15 and still haven't received them
The most recent information I have seen - and this was with respect to the T4A for the $500 for senior seniors - is that the slips are coming out the week of 14th March. I'm not holding my breath. Also, am hearing that some T4A's are not showing up on "Rep a Client" even though the client was, by all accounts, eligible for the $500 and preparers are having to go back to these clients to ascertain if they did in fact get the bonus.

Jrbrooks: several clients called me today and yesterday-they just got their CPP & OAS slips. And the $500 sometimes does not show on the CRA website, either.
Thanx for the update, Jack. So far as I can figure, this seems to be a Western Canadian problem, as have seen slips from Ontario. Will pass on to contacts the issue with the T4A's.
Jo
BTW, I'm in Ontario (the Greater Toronto Area).
Hi, Jack
So it's a country-wide problem. I'm out west.
Just heard from a local senior who DID get the T4A(OAS) and T4A(P). The suggestion is that it's the older seniors (+75) whose slips are late. Of course, those are the people who are trying to stay independent while worrying the "harddrive's getting full". And having to have them go back into their bank accounts to confirm whether or not they received the $500 isn't fun; worse when the senior is no longer independent and the family has to sort things out.

Hi Joe,
It's a very good point: "worse when the senior is no longer independent and the family has to sort things out." Some seniors have not physically been in my office for years and their families have been bringing their receipts. As to the $500 payment, even those who have brought me T4A slips were not aware of ever getting such a payment, as it was simply deposited in their account. Some have even denied ever receiving it!
However, the good news is that more and more of my clients are finally getting the CPP/OAS slips. Yet I have noticed a rather significant drop in my business due to this issue (as well as due to the war in Ukraine) and I expect to be extremely busy during the second half of March and in April. I always wish the tax filing deadline were on May 15 or so!

Bite your tongue --LOL
Being up some 25 % this year so far--about 650 (or so) so far, I am booked solid, 1-2 weeks in advance and have NEVER looked so forward to May 1st, so I can sleep in----HAHHA
Been working 6 am-7pm in my office (in my house--or an addition to it) then upstairs until 9 booking more appointments and answering people question.
While it is great to be busy, I am starting to hit that "wall" we all seem to hit the last week of April.
