About Mailchimp Pricing Tiers

by Intuit Updated 4 weeks ago

When you choose a monthly paid plan, you’ll pick the plan that contains the features that match your marketing needs, and then you’ll select a maximum contact count based on the number of contacts you expect to have. Together, your plan and contact count make up your pricing tier. The tier you choose includes a set number of contacts and monthly email sends, and determines your base pricing.

In this article, you’ll learn about pricing tiers and how you can adjust your tier to best match your marketing needs.

How tiers work

Monthly paid plans require you to select your contact count based on the number of contacts you want to store across all audiences in your Mailchimp account. Your maximum contact count determines your pricing tier. When choosing your tier, it’s important to remember that subscribed, non-subscribed, and unsubscribed contacts all count toward your contact limit. You can change your maximum contact count at any time, but you may want to give yourself room to grow to avoid additional charges.

Add-on contact blocks and tiers

Sometimes audiences grow faster than planned, or you might send more emails than usual in a month. If you go over the contact or send limit for your tier, we’ll charge you for an extra, smaller set of contacts and email sends called an add-on contact block. If you exceed your limit by more contacts or email sends than what is included in one add-on contact block, you’ll incur additional charges for multiple blocks. Additional charges are assessed month-by-month, based on your billing cycle, as described in Section 7A of our Standard Terms of Use. The cost of each add-on contact block, and the number of contacts and email sends it includes, differs depending on the monthly plan you’ve selected. You can reach out to our Support team for information specific to your plan.

To avoid additional charges for add-on contact blocks, we encourage you to periodically review your plan and contact count to make sure you’re on the most appropriate pricing tier.

Upgrade to a higher tier

You can always see how close you are to your contact limits in your Mailchimp account on the Account Overview page. This page also shows your monthly billing date.

You can review the cost of upgrading to a higher tier at any time. If you determine that upgrading your account to a higher tier decreases your total plan cost, you can confirm the upgrade to immediately receive a higher contact and email send limit.

If you don’t want to move to a higher tier, you have several options. You’ll still incur additional charges for add-on contact blocks on your next bill if you exceeded your self-selected contact or email send limits in your current billing cycle, but here are a couple ways to help you avoid additional charges on future bills.
