This solution doesn't work because this part of the program was changed. There is no Employment tab in the Employees section anymore. FRUSTRATING!!

The steps shared by Joyce is for changing the work location of an employee. Changing the primary location is different, and we'll need help from our Support to get it done. But first, we can set up your new primary work location, so they can just select it when you contact them.

To add a new work location:

1. Click the Gear icon and choose Payroll settings.
2. Select Work Locations, then choose Add a Work Location.
3. Add the new work location, then Save.

To contact our Support:

1. Open this article: Support hours and types.
2. Expand the Online Payroll section.
3. Click Start a message on the product that you're subscribed to.

I did this and then a blank window opened. I sent my message and waited for a reply. This is too cumbersome for a simple, and likely common update that small businesses have. Primary addresses change often enough that "calling" customer service should not be required.

I have called customer support. They are unaware of a solution to this problem. Wish you had an update to this software flaw, shouldn't have to spend 45 minutes to change an address.

This does not work for changing the primary business location on Intuit Payroll. I am having a very hard time getting the address changed for my business. I have updated the work location for all employees. I have added a new work location. I cannot remove the old "primary" location. It will not let me edit it, delete it, nothing. I cannot change the new address to the primary location. Every time I create a pay check it uses the OLD address even though I have changed the work location for the employees. How can I get this fixed?

I'm here to point you in the right direction for support in changing your primary work location in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

In case you missed it, my peers above stated that you'll have to contact our Technical Support team for further assistance. Once you've already added a new work location, they can assist you with changing the primary location.

Here's how:

1. Log in to your QBO company.
2. Click the Help menu.
3. Select Contact us.

As mentioned by my colleagues, you’ll have to contact our QBO Payroll Care Team to help change the information. This is to ensure your payroll taxes and records are in order. I also suggest you enter the correct work location in QBO so our support team can easily associate the company to the new one.

Here’s how:

1. Click on the Gear icon at the top to select Payroll settings under Your Company.
2. On the Preferences page, go to the Business Information section and tap the Work Locations link.
3. Then, hit the Add a Work Location link to access the Work Location Address.
4. From there, enter the new address.
5. Click Save to keep the changes.

The new work location information is now added to the company. After setting it up, let me show the steps to reach out to our support team.

1. Go to the Help icon at the top to open the QB Assistant window.
2. From there, choose how you want to reach out to our support team: Ask a question or Talk to a human.
3. Follow the on-screen prompt to continue.

This is the way I did it.  There is not way to inactivate a primary address online nor is there a way to select the primary address as being different from the original which is why I edited the primary address to the new address. I then the added the old work place as a new address and then marked it inactive.

When clicking on the gear icon and clicking payroll settings there is NO option for Work Locations.

I am so frustrated.l Why should you have to call someone to fix it when moving business locations in the same state much less another state.

I called QBO. Was on the phone in active problem solving for 2 hours. They were able to force the system to accept a new work location, but I cannot assign the employee to the new work location. 

They have "escalated" the situation as many are having the same problem
