How do I categorise bank interest?

Hi l_caruana,

 

While we can't advise which specific category you should be using to categorise your bank interest, there are several different default categories provided in QuickBooks Online which could suit your purposes. If the interest is debited from your account, you could look at examples like Interest expense or Bank charges and fees. If the interest is credited to you, you could use a category like Interest income. If you would prefer, you could also create your own category:

 

  1. Go to the Banking tab and click the transaction to expand it.
  2. Select the 'Category' dropdown and choose +Add new.
  3. Here you can explore the different accounts and detail types provided, each with their own description of their purpose. Once you have chosen a setup, select Save and Close. Then click Add to add the transaction to your books.
