You can easily record your BAS payment in the GST centre or create a journal entry in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Jenny. I'll provide you with the detailed steps to help you accomplish this effectively.

If you want to record the BAS payment in the GST Centre, you first need to enable this. Here’s how to do it:

  1. In the GST menu, click Get Started.
  2. Select your accounting method and BAS lodgement frequency from the GST section. Contact your accountant or the ATO if unsure of what to choose.
  3. If required, click the PAYG Withholding box and choose your frequency.
  4. For PAYG Instalments if obligated, tick the PAYG Instalments box, select your reporting method, and reporting frequency.
  5. If applicable, select Other taxes and tick the relevant options.
  6. After that, hit Save and finish.

Now that your BAS and GST are set up, you are ready to record GST transactions in QuickBooks Online. Follow the steps below for accurate recording.

  1. Navigate to GST and click on the To Do tab.
  2. Choose Record Payment for the right activity statement.
  3. Input the Amount paid, select the Account used, and enter the Date of payment.
  4. Add a memo if needed.
  5. Click Save.

If you opt not to use the Lodge BAS function within the GST Centre, consider creating a Journal Entry instead. For step-by-step instructions on how to proceed, please see this article: Recording a GST payment (BAS Payment) in QuickBooks Online.

Furthermore, if the payment you made exceeds the amount due, you can also record the GST refund in your QBO.
