I am trying to connect my quickbooks account to the ATO to enable me to lodge and process BAS directly through quickbooks. I have completed the steps to complete authentication through the mygovID App, on to ATO side it shows as being successfully connected to quickbooks, but once I have completed the 7 steps in quickbooks and then selected the "I have setup the connection with the ATO" and then select next I get an error come back saying "An application error has occured while processing your request".
What am I doing wrong?
Hi Sherbet,
We are looking into this error as we have received a couple of reports on this. It is possible there was a temporary issue that may have resolved overnight. Could you please attempt to complete the setup process again in QBO? If you encounter the error a second time, please reach out to our Support Team directly on 1800 046 038 so your particular use case can be recorded for the purposes of investigation. Thanks for your tip, it looks like it is connected. Next issue is that when I want to send it to the ATO it shows that the GST report for the ATO does not match with the ATO's requested set up. Not sure how that should look like as I thought the system is set up to send the right format automatic when you press the send button. Anyway, it tells me to do it manually so it looks like I'm stuck with letting my bookkeeper do the BAS until I have found out how to solve this issue.
Hi shiraz1,
May I clarify please, are you referring to the message that looks something like 'We can't e-lodge this activity statement as one or more obligations in your settings don't match what the ATO has on record for you', or 'the reporting basis is not what the ATO was expecting'? If so, this is a warning from the ATO that the reporting requirements you have set up with them don't match what you have set up in QuickBooks Online. As an example, you may be set up with the ATO to report PAYG-I, but have not enabled this in your settings, or enabled WET tax in QuickBooks when you are not required to report this to the ATO.
You will need to check your settings in QuickBooks:
If the settings are correct on both sides, the other possibility is that the period you are trying to lodge is not what the ATO is expecting, in which case you will need to determine what needs to be lodged manually with the ATO before it is 'synced' up with QuickBooks.

Hi Kass, Thanks for the tip. I have enabled the PayG setting as mentioned. When I click on next it aks the following question:
"Enter your income tax instalment amount for the company. Enter the instalment amount provided by the ATO, adjust it only if you need to."
When I look above where you see the amount you need to pay the ATO or get refunded I see that I get a refund of $96,--, do I fill in this amount ? Ps. the last sentence confuses me as no amount is provided by the ATO. I'm trying to lodge the BAS statement of the last quarter.
Thanks,
Shiraz
Hi shiraz1,
I apologise but I am unable to provide advice on what amounts you should be entering. It sounds like you have enabled PAYG Instalments in your settings. If you are reporting PAYG Instalments, the figure comes from the ATO and you enter it in when lodging your BAS. If you are reporting PAYG Withholding, the figure will be calculated for you based off the entries in your QuickBooks file marked with the W2 PAYG Withholding tax code for that period. See this page for more information on PAYG-I and this page for PAYG-W.
In this situation, it would be best to reach out to your accountant to determine what you should be reporting here. Once you are satisfied with the settings and figures entered into the BAS, you should be able to proceed with e-lodgement.
