Can I add a Deposit section on an invoice with it's own due date or do I need to create a Deposit invoice and then the full invoice with the deposit deducted? Options?

Business requires deposits up front and then the remainder due at a much later date however needs to allow for payments throughout. TIA!

Hi edgodaly,

Thanks for posting in the Community!

We can make use of the progress invoicing feature in QuickBooks Online so you can invoice customers for partial payments.

Here's how to enable progress invoicing:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and Settings.
  2. Select Sales
  3. Select Edit in the Progress Invoicing.
  4. Turn on the Create multiple partial invoices from a single quote
  5. Select Save and Done.

Next thing to do is to create an invoice template for progress invoices.

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Custom form styles
  2. On New style dropdown arrow, select Invoice.
  3. Enter name of this invoice template.
  4. In the Design tab, select Change up the template and select Airy new template.
  5. In Edit print settings, untick Fit to window envelope.
  6. Select Content tab.
  7. Click Edit on the second part of the invoice and then select Show more activity options.
  8. Tick Show progress on line items if you want to show item details on the progress invoice.
  9. Select Done.

Once done, please open the quote and select Create invoice. You can charge for a percentage or a specific amount. If you choose Custom amount for each line, enter a specific amount for each item on the invoice. Then select Save.
