I have received an invoice from mcafee purporting to be through Intuit. Is it genuine or a scam?

Let me share details to help with your question about the email that you receive, mattaustin5-yaho.

Official notifications are emailed directly sent by Intuit or QuickBooks, and not through a third-company. They're usually sent through an email that ends with @intuit.com or @e.intuit.com.

If you believe that you have received a phishing or a scam email, you can go to our Security Center and submit a report. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Intuit Online Security Centre.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Look for Report a fake email (or phishing), then click Report a fake email.

Additional information about protecting your information are discussed here: Identify Suspicious Activity, Phishing Scams, and Potential Fraud

You can also reach out to our chat support team so they can verify your account and help you further with this. Go to this article to get their contact details: Get Product Support for QuickBooks Online.

@mattaustin5-yaho

Ignore it. In the US community, some community members reported the same thing. They received an email about Norton for the last 3 months.

I appreciate you for being vigilant on this matter. Scammers often claim they are from Intuit. To verify this, I encourage you to report any suspicious calls or phishing emails to spoof@intuit.com.

“Appears to be.” I contacted intuit who confirmed that this is a scam…it shows from intuit.com, but reply to address is mcafee.cc and the phone number in the email is not one of intuits numbers.

Thanks for bringing this one to our attention, gatehealing.

Scammers often claim they are from Intuit. I'd recommend reporting any suspicious calls or phishing emails to spoof@intuit.com. Also, official notifications are emailed directly and sent by Intuit or QuickBooks (not through a third company). They're sent through an email that ends with @intuit.com or @e.intuit.com. If you have received a phishing or a scam email, just go to our Security Center and submit a report. Here's how:

I have received an invoice from mcafee purporting to be through Intuit. Is it genuine or a scam?

Apologies if I have not been clear: The "From" field on the email I received IS from (at)intuit.com . . . it is NOT just claming to be from intuit in the message body . . . the ACTUAL email address in the FROM FIELD is actually ....(at)INTUIT.COM

That's why this is so concerning. . . you keep saying that legit emails come from (at)Intuit.com, and this IS, in fact, from (at)Intuit.com (in the From field itself).

I have forwarded this to spoof, but I want to be clear to other readers of this thread--just because the from field SAYS that its from (at)Intuit.com may not ACTUALLY mean that it is a legitimate email. Perhaps an explanation of how this happens (that the actual FROM field shows (at)intuit.com vs just a signature line in the message body) would be helpful for people to see so that they question even messages that show From: ....(at)intuit.com . . . reading your comments, plenty of poeple may see an email with (at)intuit.com in the FROM field and thing it's legit, and therefore click the links and wind up with malware or giving their login credentials. Clarity would be helpful.

Thank you for joining the thread, @pangeng. I'll share some details to help you verify if the email you received is for you and if it came from Intuit or QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Before anything else, know that I appreciate you for being alert on things like this. Intuit ensures the safety of the information that you've shared with us. You'll want to contact our QuickBooks Customer Care Team about this. They have the tools to help you identify if the email sent has something to do with your QuickBooks subscription or verify it came from our end. I'll gladly input the steps below so you can proceed. To begin, here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select Help (?).
  3. Select either tab to get started:
  • Assistant: Get quick, personalised answers. Select a suggested option, or type a question or topic you need help with. If you decide you need further help, you can still Talk to a human.
  • Search: Search the QuickBooks Online knowledge base directly, or select Contact Us and choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start a chat with a support expert.
    • Get a callback from the next available expert.

In addition, here's an article to learn how to determine potential phishing or spam emails: Identify suspicious activity, phishing scams, and potential fraud.

You can also check this page to know more on how we manage data: How we keep Your Data Safe.

The Community space is open 24/7 in case you have any additional QuickBooks-related concerns, @pangeng. It'll be my pleasure to help you out again. Take care, and stay hydrated!

Can you provide a different email address?  I just forwarded a suspicious email to spoof  @ intuit.com, and immediately got this back:

Sorry, we were unable to deliver your message to the following address.

<spoof @ intuit.com>:
550: #5.1.0 Address rejected.

Hello, GPS_Pilot. Welcome to QuickBooks Community!

Yes, we have a different email address where you can report suspicious emails, fraud and security concerns.

Instead of forwarding the suspicious email to spoof@intuit.com, we can forward the email to our security team at security@intuit.com. For further guidance, we can visit and read through this article: Learn how to protect sensitive information.

Please don't hesitate to comment below if you have more concerns, especially about securing your information. Take care and have a good one.
