I am trying to lodge a BAS for a prior period within quickbooks. I am getting an error saying to provide the password but there is nowhere to do that. How do I proceed?

I have already lodged the BAS with the ATO but need to mark it as lodged in QBO. Even though QBO acknowledged that it has been lodged QBO has made changed to historical data. So when I try to "Mark as Lodged" it gives an error saying password is required, but there is nowhere to put the password. Can anyone help? thanks.

Hi tayres-atwea-edu,

It may be that your books are currently locked so before changing the historical data you first need to unlock your books. If you are a Master admin or Company ID and know the password, you can unlock the closed books. You can see with the steps below on how to do this.

  1. Before you start, sign in to QuickBooks Online as a master admin or company admin. Only admins can make these changes.
  2. Go to Settings ⚙ and then select Accounts and Settings.
  3. Select the Advanced tab.
  4. Select Edit ✎ in the Accounting section.
  5. Change the closing date. Note: To change your password, just enter a new password and confirm it.
  6. Select Save and then Done.

Return back to the GST centre, then try to lodge the BAS again.

If you do not lock your books in QuickBooks and are unaware of any password I would ask you to try a Browser Troubleshoot as it may be a display error prompting this unexpected warning.

If browser troubleshooting does not resolve the issue I would encourage you to reach out to our support team by clicking here for further assistance.

Thanks,

-Steven

Hi Steven,

thanks for your reply.  I assume that when you say change the date you mean back to a period before the BAS being prepared? That is what I did and when changing settings removed the requirement for a password before going back into the BAS preparation.

Now though instead of telling me to input the password it is giving me a warning saying "You must also click Save again to make this change that is prior to the closing date". There is nowhere to press "Save" on the page and if I hit "Mark as Lodged" again it just keeps repeating the warning. Do you have any other suggestions?

thanks.

Glad you got back to us and tried that potential work around. What I would encourage at this stage is to reach out to our support team for assistance. Without viewing your company file, it is tricky to determine if any settings are missing or if there is an inherent issue with lodging BAS.
