How do I change business-use percentage on multiple expenses?

Hi all.

I just signed up to QB Self Employed last night.

I recently began food/alcohol deliveries and use my car.  I'm now finding my car usage is increasing as I'm getting the hang of things with the deliveries.  So hence my question below:

Say I have entered 30 fuel receipts and set the business-use percentage to 25% for each receipt.  If I later realise the business-use percentage should be, say 35%, is there an way to update the percentage on all the receipts easily?  I'd prefer not to update each receipt one at a time if it can be avoided.. particularly if I've entered 100+ fuel receipts, and other vehicle-related expenses.

Any help appreciated :)

Thank you,

Julian

Welcome to the Community, summery123!

Congratulations on your new business! At the moment we're unable to bulk update transactions in the QuickBooks Self Employed version, you'll have to manually update each transaction on file. The reclassify transaction option is currently available in QuickBooks Online for Accountants only.

I can definitely add this feature request to our report and let our Product Developers know. That way, they can check on the bulk option to update transactions in QuickBooks Self Employed and hopefully can add it in the future updates.

Hi summery123,

Awesome! You're on the right track to update or enter your receipts fortnightly to easily manage your transactions and make sure you categorise them correctly in your QuickBooks Self Employed account.

You can also check this link to Categorise transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

How do I change business-use percentage on multiple expenses?

Thanks for the confirming there isn't a bulk option to update transactions in QB Self Employed.  I was hoping I was looking in the wrong place for a bulk update setting, but it's okay. I've come up with a 'workaround' as per below:

To limit the amount of fuel receipts (which is the bulk of my expenses/receipts), I'll enter these on a fortnightly to monthly basis as one lump sum.  This way I'll only have a handful of lump-sum transactions to update (the business-use percentage) should I need to do it in the future.

It's not perfect but it'll be much easier than individually updating 100s of fuel receipts! :)
