Loging on

Lately I seem to log on more the 3 hour timeout i have set seems shorter.

Now it needs to know I am not a robot and sends a text pin code to get back in.

This can happen several times per day.

Can anyone tell me why the change?

Hi 66plainst,

QuickBooks Online uses a timeout feature for your security. This feature helps prevent unauthorised persons from accessing your data when you're away from the computer. Your time of time activity is measured from the last time you moved your mouse, clicked, or used your keyboard on any transaction form.

Here's how check the time out duration set in QuickBooks Online:

  1. Go to ️Gear icon, then select Account and Settings.
  2. Select Advanced.
  3. Select Edit ✎ from the Other preferences section.
  4. Choose 1, 2, or 3 hours from the Sign me out if inactive ▼ dropdown menu.
  5. Select Save then Done.

If your time out duration in QuickBooks Online settings is already set to 3 hours and it logs you our automatically, I'd recommend accessing your account on a private window. This is to verify if the issue has something to do with your browser.

Here's the keyboard shortcut depending on the browser you're using:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Internet Explorer: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

If this works, you can clear your regular browser's cache so the system can start fresh. In addition, switching to a different browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox) and updating your browser will sometimes do the trick.

Keep me posted on how it goes, I'll be right here to help you if you need further assistance.
