Paying Directors

Hi,

As Directors of the business how do I pay two of us a weekly wage?

Paying Directors

Hello greantlisa-brydon,

 

There is no limit to the number of pay schedules you can create in QuickBooks Online, you can have weekly, fortnightly and monthly pay schedules. If you have existing weekly pay schedule you can use that frequency or create a new one and called it directors pay schedule. But first make sure to turn on payroll and set it up, and then add the director as an employee in the account.

 

To enable payroll, go to Payroll and select Choose your plan. Choose the subscription level that's right for you, then fill in the requested details to get started running your first payroll. For more details on getting started with payroll, refer to this guide: Getting Started with QuickBooks Payroll.

 

To add a new pay schedule:

 

  1. Click on the Employees tab.
  2. Click on Payroll Settings.
  3. Under Pay Run Settings, select Pay Schedules.
  4. Once on the screen, you click the green Add button in the top right, from there you can create a Directors Pay and use any pay frequency.
  5. Click on Save.


Last step would be best to then assign the Pay Schedule to the two directors. Which you can do below:

 

  1. Select the Employee's name
  2. Select Pay Run Defaults on left-hand side
  3. Scroll down and choose/change their Pay Schedule to select Directors Pay
  4. Then scroll down and hit Save.
  5. Do this for both, then it will allow you to run this Pay Run, regardless of frequency and reporting wise it will assign the two directors under their own Pay Schedule. 

Once the above is done, you should be able to create a pay run for the directors.
