Can I delete attachments in the existing journal entries?

I need to add a journal entry in monthly frequency for one of my client. This includes number of items in with different amounts in each month. I can copy the previous journal entry and modify the numbers in the each column as needed, however, I noted I can't delete the attachments which is also copied from the previous journal entry (in this case, detailed tax invoice and payment receipt). Is there a way to delete these attachments when I make a copy? John

Can I delete attachments in the existing journal entries?

You came to the right place for help with removing the attachments on journal entries, @jseo1.

 

I can definitely provide the steps for you to follow. When you add some attachments to transactions, you can still remove it by clicking the little X icon beside the file name. This is regardless if the journal entry is already saved or copied. See this:

 

You can also delete it from the Attachments page. To do that, perform the steps below:

 

  1. Tap the Gear icon and select Attachments.
  2. Find the file you want to delete then click the drop-down beside Download.
  3. Click Yes to remove it from all linked transactions.

 

If you still can't delete it, open a private browser. Unexpected issues in QuickBooks can sometimes be affected by the amount of data stored in the cache. This is because a regular browser will constantly overwrite the data and will not remove history unless done manually.

 

Private browsing will not save any history, so it's a great place to identify issues in the browser. Use these keyboard shortcuts to launch a new private window:

 

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl Shift N  
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: press Command Shift N

 

Once done, delete the attachments again and see if it works. If it does, clear the cache to resolve browser issues in QBO. Using a different browser can also help.

I use to have the ability to "X" and delete previous attachments but that has been removed:

Was there an update or a way to go back to having that capability.

We currently have an ongoing issue with the missing X option when trying to remove an attachment. Rest assured our product engineers are diligently working on a permanent fix.

 

To ensure you'll get an update about the resolution status, I suggest reaching out to our QuickBooks Support Team. This way, they can add your company to the list of affected users. You can also provide this investigation number for easy tracking: INV-63114. To reach them, please follow the steps below:

 

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Click the Help button.
  3. In the QuickBooks Assistance chatbox, select Talk to a human and choose I still need a human.
  4. Select Contact Us.
