Import non inventory

I want to import non inventory items & services using excel.  When I get the file uploaded it always maps the items as inventory. I have tried for hours to change the mapping but it always inputs the data as INVENTORY.  Same deal if you want to import any service items.

Is there actually anyway to do this. I have even tried NOT mapping the "TYPE" & "Inventory Asset Account" columns. QB just defaults & loads inventory. leaving columns blank does not help either.

I cant even change to what I want after mapping as the non inventory type is not even available in that part of the process.

Any help on this one please

Import non inventory

Hello there, myds,

I have imported non-inventory items on my end to check the error you encountered. I was able to import successfully.

Can we try to check your file format again? Attached below is the sample file I used.

If everything is good and you're still unable to import non-inventory items, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks support. They will be able to work with you remotely.

  1. Go to the Help icon.
  2. Select Talk to a human.
  3. Enter "Talk to a human" again in the search bar.
  4. Choose I still need a human, then click Contact us.
  5. Select Get a callback or Send a message to start a conversation.

We're open from 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM (AEDT) Mon - Fri and 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM (AEDT) Sat - Sun excluding public holidays.

Import non inventory

Hi there, DaSpug.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. I'll share details on how importing items works in QuickBooks. Then, ensure that you'll be able to upload your noninventory with the exact details in QuickBooks Online.

The information appears on your file or when manually importing non-inventory items in QuickBooks, the details should reflect correctly on the products/services. That said, I recommend making sure to use the right format and map the items/services accurately. You can open this article to view the detailed information on how to perform the process: Import products and services into QuickBooks Online.

If you're getting the same experience, I encourage you to manually update your inventory under the Products and Service page inside QuickBooks Online.

  1. From the Gear icon, choose Products and Services under Lists.
  2. Look for the item from there, click on Edit under Action.
  3. Click the Change type link and select Non-inventory. Then, tap on Save and close to save the changes. Repeat the steps for the rest of the items/inventory.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to see steps on how you can change the income account for any of your product or service items to ensure your company has an accurate record of your transactions: Change the account for a product/service item.

You can always add a comment below if you have any other questions about importing items in QBO. I'm always here to help.

Import non inventory

Hi ChristieAnn,

If I upload products, they always come through as "Track", regardless as to what I put in the CSV file.

I'm trying to add over 250 products, so adjusting each of them manually isn't really an option.

What I need is a fix to the issue where the item type clearly isn't being detected.

Any suggestions as to how to fix the upload?

Thanks!

Import non inventory

I've worked this out now...

Firstly, the sample file is incorrect!!! "Non-stock" is not an accepted value, it's "Noninventory".

Secondly, DON'T complete the following columns:

  • Quantity on Hand
  • Low Stock Alert
  • Stock Asset Account (I hadn't anyway)
  • Quantity as-of Date

Leaving these 4 columns empty allows the type to be set automatically to "Noninventory" but shows a red box under "Quantity". IGNORE the red box and go ahead and import your items, it'll then add them to QBO.

Hopefully this will workaround the issue for other users too!

DaSpug

You are spot on!!.

Back in October I wrote the following to a Support Rep and asked them to update the HELP file, but I didn't see it done.

Thank You for the information.
Please have the Support Team note that when importing non-inventory products, although the  quantity column is not required, if the fields in the file for  quantity are left blank. The “QTY” column on the Quickbook’s “IMPORT” screen displays the column with Red indicators for each row, giving the end user the impression that something needs to be fixed. However, the data will import successfully with out making changes to the “QTY” column.   This can be misleading to end users. Please add to your Help File.
