Your GDPR data rights in QuickBooks: Delete, access and manage your data

by Intuit• Updated 1 month ago

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), you have a range of rights over your personal data held by Intuit. This article explains how to exercise those rights — including how to delete your data, submit a Subject Access Request (SAR), and download a copy of your data.

How to delete your data (Right to Erasure)

Under UK GDPR Article 17, you have the right to ask Intuit to erase your personal data. We will delete items such as your profile information, details you have given us directly, data used in your QuickBooks account, and information collected about your browsers and devices.

⚠️  Before you begin — your request cannot be processed until all of the following are resolved:

1. Cancel any active QuickBooks subscription linked to your email address.
2. Resolve any other outstanding actions on your account (e.g. unpaid invoices, pending payroll runs). If your request is still blocked after completing the above, there may be a backend account issue. In this case, contact QuickBooks UK Support or use the privacy contact form in the 'Need help?' section below.
  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Select your profile icon in the top-right corner, then select Intuit Account.
  3. Select Data privacy, then select Delete.
  4. Review what will be deleted, then select Make a delete request to confirm.

Important timelines:

  • You have 1 day to cancel a deletion request after submitting it.
  • Deletion requests can take up to 90 days to complete.
  • Do not create a new Intuit Account using the same email address during this period, as new data may also be deleted.

Call our dedicated data team:

Alternatively, visit the Intuit Privacy site:

  1. Go to the Intuit Privacy Centre.
  2. Select Manage your data, then Help me find my data.
  3. Complete the form with your information and select Continue.
  4. You will receive an email with details of any Intuit accounts linked to your email. Follow the steps to confirm your identity and submit your deletion request.

Submit a Subject Access Request (SAR)

Under UK GDPR Article 15, you have the right to request a copy of the personal data Intuit holds about you. There are two types of request — make sure you use the right one:

Use this if you want to access or download the data associated with your QuickBooks Online account (transactions, reports, profile information, etc.).

  1. Sign in to your Intuit Account Manager.
  2. Select Data privacy.
  3. Select Submit a data request and choose Access my data.
  4. Confirm your identity and submit.

Response time: Intuit will respond to your SAR within 30 days of receiving it, in line with UK GDPR requirements.

Use this if you want all personal data that Intuit holds on you across all its systems and products — not just your QuickBooks account. This is a more complex request and is handled directly by Intuit's Privacy team.

  1. Go to the Intuit Privacy contact form.
  2. Scroll down to the I have a privacy related question section.
  3. From the Subject of Concern dropdown, select Data Privacy Rights Inquiry.
  4. Complete the form with your details and submit. The Privacy team will respond within 30 days.

Note: The Privacy team's data subject request portal is not part of the QuickBooks help centre. The link above goes directly to the Intuit Privacy site. If you are unsure which type of SAR you need, contact QuickBooks UK Privacy Support on 0808 168 9533.

Download a copy of your data

You can request a download of the personal data associated with your Intuit account at any time.

  1. Sign in to your Intuit Account Manager.
  2. Select Data privacy, then select Download.
  3. Confirm your request. You will receive an email when your download is ready.

Processing time: Download requests usually take up to 15 days. The time may vary depending on the size of your request.

Restrict or object to the use of your data

Under UK GDPR Articles 18 and 21, you have the right to restrict how we process your data, or to object to certain types of processing entirely.

  • To exercise these rights, visit the Intuit Privacy Centre and select Manage your data, or contact our Data Protection Officer:
  • Use the DPO contact form and select Contact Intuit’s Data Protection Officer from the dropdown.

Need help or stuck?

If you encounter any issues completing a GDPR request, or if you have not received a
response within the expected timeframe, use the following options:
