how to delete a duplicate journal

Hello there, finance237.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), you cannot void a journal entry. However, you do have the option to either delete the duplicate or create a reverse journal entry to address the duplication. Both methods let you keep your financial records accurate.

If a journal entry was created in error, you can delete it permanently. Ensure this action is necessary, as it may impact your account balances.

 Here's how:

  1. Navigate to the Gear icon and select Chart of Accounts.

  2. Locate the account tied to the journal entry and select Account History.
  3. Find the journal entry in the register. Enter the word "Journal" in the Ref No. or Type column.

  4. Open the journal entry and select Delete.
  5. Confirm by selecting Yes.

If you need to offset a previous journal entry, you can reverse it. For more details, refer to this article: Reverse or delete a journal entry in QuickBooks Online
