Search function intermittent
When I use Edit/Search F3, the results are intermittent. Sometimes a result is returned, 1/2 the time not.
See screenshot for evidence of a transaction that exists, but the Search returns nothing but the name of the Vendor, NO transaction.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. It's my priority to help you sort this out, @DS57.
To isolate this case, we need to ensure that you're using the latest version of QuickBooks to prevent any errors.
let's manually update the software to the latest release.
Here's how:
- Close your QuickBooks entirely, and then open the Windows Start menu.
- Search for QuickBooks Desktop and right-click on the icon.
- Select Run as administrator.
- In the No Company Open screen, go to the Help > Update QuickBooks Desktop.
- In the Update QuickBooks Desktop window, click the Options tab.
- Select Mark All and click Save.
- Go to the Update Now tab and put a check mark on the the Reset Update box.
- Hit on the Get Updates button.
Once the download is finished re-open QuickBooks and make sure to run it as the administrator. You can also set the program for automatic updates. . Here's an article for more detailed information: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
Though, if the error still persists you can run Repair QuickBooks Desktop.
Please let me know how it goes by clicking the Reply button. I want to make sure that everything is taken care of. Have a great day!

The Search function has broke again.
I followed the steps to "let's manually update the software to the latest release" and no joy, again.
The transaction I'm looking for when I enter the Vendor's name, comes up with past transactions, but not the one I see in my register.
Please help!

Not sure what you mean by, "...especially in pulling up an account." ???
I just want a solution, and don't want to talk to anyone on the phone.
"Search" is a basic tool in EVERY program.
Why is Quickbooks so messed up?
Please show me a solution.

Greetings, @DS57.
What my colleague is trying to say is that our Customer Support Team has the tools to look further into your QuickBooks Desktop account to see what could cause this to occur. However, let's try to run a repair on your account to help resolve the search function issue. Here's how:
Note: Backup your company file before doing the following steps.
- Restart your computer. This makes sure there are no programs that may affect the repair.
- Go to the Windows Start menu and then press Control Panel.
- Choose Programs and Features and then Uninstall a Program.
- Select QuickBooks from the list of programs and then Uninstall/Change.
- Hit Continue or Next.
- Click Repair and then Next.
- Press Finished once the repair is done. Note: You may have to restart your computer to complete the repair.
Touch base with me after trying these steps. I value you and the success of your business. I'll be on standby.

I am not in Quickbooks Desktop.
I'm running Quickbooks Pro on my Windows 10.
There is no "repair" option in, Settings, Apps and Features, Quickbooks Pro, Uninstall.
I WILL NOT uninstall this program to fix a SEARCH issue.
Please advise on how to fix the poorly designed "Search" function?
Note: It's never worked correctly in the 10 years I've been using Quickbooks.
Thoughts?

Hello there, @DS57.
We'll need to make sure that your computer program meets these system requirements for QuickBooks 2020.
To get started, let's follow these troubleshooting steps to fix installing issues. You'll need to download the QuickBooks Tool Hub file. It fixes issue installation issues.
- Close QuickBooks.
- Download the QuickBooks Tool Hub file. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop).
- Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
- Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
- When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
Firstly, use the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool
- Open the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
- In the tools hub, select Installation Issues.
- Select QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool. Let the tool run. It can take up to 20 minutes.
- When the tool finishes, restart your computer.
Secondly, update Windows. Updates prevent and often fix install errors.
- Review the “how to manually update” sections of this Microsoft article and update your version of Windows.
- Once the update finishes, restart your computer.
- If you were able to open QuickBooks before you saw the error, Open QuickBooks and your company file.
- If you weren't able to finish installing QuickBooks, install QuickBooks Desktop again.
Once done, manually fix windows components. If the QuickBooks Install Tool and the update didn’t fix the error, you can repair specific Windows components yourself.
However, you should only do these troubleshooting steps you’re an IT professional, confident Windows user, or working with the experts from Microsoft support.
Lastly, use a Selective Startup to install QuickBooks Desktop. To get around third-party apps that may block the install, like antivirus and antispyware programs, install QuickBooks while in Selective Startup (Safe Mode).
If you’re still having issues, we recommend reaching out to an IT professional. These errors indicate there may be a general issue with Windows.
Stay in touch if you have other questions about QuickBooks. Have a good one. Take care!

Hello
Do you show the last update on the bottom of date range?
There is an option under it that reads Update search information. If you do that then do search again, that should solve the problem. I do run into this very often and just updating the search works.
Good luck
