Can someone help me, I made some changes in 2023. Then, when I am going to reconcile the 2024, my beginning balance is off by -97,592.76, but 2023 ending is correct.

I have a correct balance for 2023 after making the necessary corrections, but QuickBooks is still showing that I’m off by a significant amount. I'm not sure how to fix this issue.

Could you please help me resolve this?

I've got you, Jessica. Let me lend a hand in fixing your beginning balance issue in QuickBooks Online.

I see where you're coming from. These are several reasons that may clarify why you're beginning balance is off:

  • Someone entered an incorrect opening balance.
  • Previously reconciled transactions were cleared, voided, deleted, or modified.
  • Someone adds transactions that are older than the opening balance and doesn't edit the original entry to reflect the change.

To fix this, first, we'll have to review the original opening balance before checking your beginning balance. Follow the steps below:

Step 1: Review the opening balance entry in QuickBooks.

Step 2: Compare the balance to your real-life account.

Step 3: Review your account register.

Step 4: Start reconciling again.
