My clients have been using QuickBooks Pro for many years. Now looking to go cloud based. I understand that there are different versions of QB online, e.g. UK and Global

UK version does not accept Isle of Man as a county or IM as a valid Post Code.

I have tried to get onto Global version. It wants to know what country you are in. I clicked on IOM flag and it takes you back to the UK version! I have wasted several hours on this farrago.

Perhaps I should investigate a different package?? Any suggestions. Rod Harker

Hi there, @rod_harker

Thanks for asking us in the Community today. At the moment, Isle of Man isn't supported in QuickBooks.

You can use any version of QuickBooks Online and then turn on the multicurrency feature to record transactions in foreign currencies.

For further insights, I've added another reference to more answers to most of your questions about multi-currency feature in QBO: Multi-currency FAQ.

If you have further questions, feel free to post a comment below. The Community is here anytime you need help.

@rod_harker

Is there a specific reason why your client needs to migrate to QB Online? If they only need to access data via an internet connection, consider using a private cloud as a solution. They can still use their existing QB Desktop. As a longtime QB Desktop user, I'm also not sure they would be "happy" to migrate to QB Online.

Thanks for your comments. Currently, client has about 10 PCs connected to a server (borrowed from IT supplier). QB data is held on server.

IT supplier is pushing for migration of all processes to cloud, so they can retrieve server and withdraw from providing backup facilities.

I was under the impression that we would need to update our QBooks program, and that not able to have Desktop version any more!

How many user do they need to have access to QuickBooks data? 10 users or else?

Hi Katherine. I think you are missing the point!

I don't seem to be able to sign up to ANY version of QB Online:

The UK version will not accept our address. It requires us to enter what "County" we live in using a "drop down" list. It requires a post code, but won't accept "IM" as valid.

I tried to access a global version, but when I put in my country as Isle of Man, I was taken back to UK version.

In the IOM we use GB Pounds, I am not looking for multi-currency capability.

Incidentally, I tried to sign up for Sage online. This gives an option of "none" for county, and is happy to accept IOM post codes. However, it seems it will not let me set up a subscription because I do not have a UK address!

Hi. Currently, there is only myself using QuickBooks Desktop version. I had hoped that  the  Director's PA would do some of the bookkeeping. (She lives in the UK so logs in remotely via a dedicated PC in the IOM. (I think it's a sort of "firewall".)) I sometimes log in @ the client's office and sometime log in from my office at home.

The advertising for the QuickBooks online version sounded really promising!

Also, I have another client that is using a prehistoric version of QuickBooks. They might like the flexibility of working from home themselves. I might find it convenient to log in remotely.

@rod_harker

Which QB Desktop UK year version are you using now?

Pro 15. I think we can continue to use this;  but it will be unsupported from 31 January 2023.

It seems that versions since Pro 15 were only available on subscription - so those unlucky users will not be able to do anything after 31 January 2023!

Are you using QB Desktop 2015 UK Pro edition? How many user license do you have? You can still buy a new one time license for QB Desktop 2019 or 2020 from several partners.

But if your company is not located in the UK, you don't need to comply with MTD regulation. You can still buy a new one time license for QB Desktop 2021 US version, buy a 3rd party service to convert data from UK version to US version, and setup a simple private cloud solution. You will be able to combine LAN users and remote users to work simultaneously in multiuser mode.
