Hello there, peter

Currently, there isn’t a way to automatically transfer your data from the desktop file to the Online version. This is the reason you’re unable to view any data in the QBO file.

What you need to do is to export these lists in a CSV format and import them to QBO. The information you can export includes the following:

  • Customers
  • Suppliers
  • Chart of Accounts
  • Products and Services/ Items

To export your customers and supplier lists:

  1. Open your desktop program.
  2. Go to the Customer/Supplier Center.
  3. Select the Excel drop-down, then choose Export Customer/Supplier list or Export Transactions.
  4. In the Export window, choose Create a comma separated values (.csv) file.
  5. Choose Export.
  6. Assign a file name, then choose the location where you want to save the file.
  7. Locate, open, and edit the file as needed.

For the other lists, you can check out this article for the detailed step: Import or Export MS Excel Files.

Once done, you can import the data by performing the steps below:

  1. Go to the Settings (Gear) icon at the upper right.
  2. Choose Import Data under Tools.
  3. Select Customers, Suppliers, Chart of Accounts, Products and Services to upload the file.
  4. Map the data.
  5. Complete the importing process.

Here’s an article that covers the common questions and answers about importing data: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1806574.

You can also contact our Odyssey team. We partnered with them to help our users, just like you, transfer our data from your Desktop file to the Online version. This is to ensure we’re able to migrate your data swiftly and accurately. Here’s how:

  1. Complete our conversion form. We'll complete it within three to five business days.
  2. Upload a backup of your data.
  3. We migrate your data and invite you to review the results.
  4. You confirm you’re happy and we transfer your files for you.

To learn more about this conversion process, go through this article: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1760414. For more details about the system requirements for QBO and its features to help you get started: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/global/faq/.

I’ll be right here to help if you need further assistance. I’m looking forward to the success of the conversion process, peter, .
