I want to open some files from Quickbook Desktop 2016 on Quickbooks online version on my mac but I can't seem to figure out how to do it.

QB Desktop and QB Online are 2 different products.

Are QB Desktop files created on QB Desktop 2016 US Pro/Premier or Mac versions?

Which MacOS do you run?

I want to open some files from Quickbook Desktop 2016 on Quickbooks online version on my mac but I can't seem to figure out how to do it.

I understand that you are trying to migrate your QuickBooks Desktop 2016 files to QuickBooks Online (QBO) and you need further assistance with the process, danyalghayas. Allow me to help you with that.

Before we proceed, could you please confirm if the files were created on QB Desktop 2016 US Pro/Premier or Mac versions. It'll help me provide you with accurate information.

For older QuickBooks Pro, Premier, Enterprise, and QuickBooks Desktop for Mac files, you can use the online tool to migrate them to QBO. You'll need a QBO US account for this process. Here's how:

  1. Open your browser on your Mac.
  2. Click on the link that corresponds to your QuickBooks version.
  3. Select Get Started. Then, sign in with your Intuit Account to proceed.

Please note that the migration process only applies to the US version. Therefore, some articles I added are only applicable to the US version.

If you are using a QuickBooks Online (QBO) account from a different region, you can export the necessary data from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Then, import it to your new QBO account. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Use our trial version to restore your QBDT file from 2016.
  2. Export the data you need from the QBDT file.
  3. Log in to your new QBO US account and import the exported data. For other data, you'll want to enter them manually.

I also suggest taking a look at this informative article. It provides detailed information on navigating the QBO interface, setting up your account, and managing your financial data: Get started with QuickBooks Online

Stay in touch if you have more concerns about managing QuickBooks files and handling data in QBO. I'm always available to help and provide the guidance you need to succeed.
