Can i add custom fields to customer database?

A warm welcome to the Community, Stephane Couronne.

I can help and share some insights regarding adding custom fields to the customer's database in QuickBooks Online.

For now, you can use the Other field to enter other customer's information since adding custom fields is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Online.

Or, you can use the Notes tab area to enter other customer's personal information. This will be shown on your customer's profile once saved.

I'm sharing with you the following write-ups below. This will provide you more information about merging as well as steps on how to designate inactive customers in QuickBooks Online:

Edit customer information

You can always get back to me if you need more help. I'd be more than willing to lend you a hand.

Can i add custom fields to customer database?

Thank you for your reply.

I actually have 11 custom fields to add to my customers, and unfortunately, the Other & Notes fields won't be sufficient to meet my requirements.

I've seen on another thread that this this feature is available on Quickbooks Online, please see below link:

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/sales-orders/create-add-and-edit-custom-fields-in-...

Furthermore, the customers database will have to be imported from an Excel sheet, and the custom fields should be available for mapping during the import.

I rest assured that a solution can be brought forward to meet my requirements, so that i can continue my subscription with my current QuickBooks Plus subscription.

Best regards

Thanks for coming back to us, Stephane Couronne.

Yes you got it right. For now, the create custom fields feature is only available in QuickBooks Online Advance. In order to obtain this feature, you may consider upgrading to QuickBooks Online Advanced. For details on how to do this, you can visit this link.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and Settings.
  2. Select the Billing & Subscription menu.
  3. In the QuickBooks Online section, select Upgrade. If you don't see it, you’re already using the plan with the most features.
  4. Choose the plan you want, and select Upgrade.
  5. Confirm your payment information and select Save.

We are always working on making sure we meet our customers' needs and we're looking forward to have this feature available to other versions of QuickBooks Online. While we do, I encourage you to visit our QuickBooks blog. To stay updated with the most recent news and features available in QBO.

Get back to me if you have other questions. I'm always happy to help you further. Keep safe and have a great rest of the day!

I appreciate the details that you gave, @Stephane Couronne.

I have some insights to share regarding the option to upgrade your subscription into QuickBooks Online Advanced.

At this time, QuickBooks Online Advanced version is not available to all regions. This is the reason you don't have the option to upgrade your subscription. This version is currently on beta testing and is offered to US users.

To give you more details and updates on this program, you may scan through these links:

For now, to get your work done, I suggest following the recommendation presented by my peer RoseMarjorieA above.

Please know that our developers are working to solve the needs of customers who are outgrowing with QuickBooks Online Plus.

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately the solution proposed does not meet my requirements, and will create undesired complexity in the management of my customers on QuickBooks Online.

Will it be possible to extend the beta version of QuickBooks Online Advanced to my company? Else i find it hard to continue considering QuickBooks online as a potential solution for my business.

I appreciate your time in posting a reply, Stephane Couronne.

For now, we're unable to apply the beta version of QuickBooks Online Advanced to other regions. The option might be implemented in the future. To see the newly added features, you can visit our QuickBooks Blog.

Please know that we're always available if you have any additional questions or other concerns.
