How can I show a credit balance on a credit note and not the full credit amount?

I've a customer looking for a credit note that has been issued.  I've allocated part of that credit note off an invoice. What I want to do now is print the credit note with the balance that is now left on it, rather than printing it with the full amount.

How do I do this?

Good day, Michelle.

The Credit Note will show the total balance, you can use the statement instead. This shows the list of customer’s transactions including the remaining balance of the Credit Note.

Here's how you can do it:

  1. On the Customer Detail page, click New Transaction.
  2. Choose Statement
  3. Select the Statement Type.
  4. Click Print or Preview.
  5. Click Print.

Alternatively, you can use the Transaction List by Customer Report. This allows you to filter a specific transaction type on a specific customer. You can do this by going to:

  1. The Reports page, search for the Transaction List by Customer report.
  2. Click the Customise button.
  3. Filter the report to a specific customer and choose Credit Note as the Transaction Type.
  4. Add the Open Balance column (you can also remove the other columns that you don't want to show).
  5. Click Run Report.
  6. Then print the report.

Don't hesitate to post again if you have any questions about QuickBooks.

Hi Kirsty thanks for your reply. I know how to print the credit note, but it's showing the full balance of the credit note, I need to to print just showing that balance that is left on it. ie some of the credit has been used to pay an invoice.

Hi Michelle,

You can use the statement instead. This will shows the list of your transactions including the remaining balance of the credit note.

You can go through this article for the steps: <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://community.intuit.com/articles/1770297-how-to-create-and-manage-statements">https://community...>

Alternatively, you can run the Transaction List by Customer Report, then customize it (see detailed steps above). Once done, you can print the report.

Have a good one!
