How to delete TAX account from chart of accounts and How it can be completely deleted from TAXES as well?

Hello @hafiz-sysilscorp,

You can mark your tax account and tax item as inactive so you can delete them. But it can only be deleted once it has no open transaction associated with it. I'll show you how.

To delete an account:

  1. Go to Accounting.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Find the tax account you wanted to delete.
  4. Under ACTION, select the Run report menu.
  5. Select Make inactive.
  6. Click Yes.

To delete a tax item:

  1. Go to Taxes.
  2. Under Edit, select Edit rates.
  3. Find the tax item you wanted to delete.
  4. Select Make inactive,
  5. Click Yes.

Lastly, here are helpful articles you can read for ideas about your account management: Reports for QuickBooks Online.

Keep me posted in the comments if you have any other questions. I'll be here to help.

How to delete TAX account from chart of accounts and How it can be completely deleted from TAXES as well?

Greetings,

Thanks for your response. I have already tried with the said procedure but when I click on "make inactive" it says "You cannot change or delete this account as it is used by the system to track tax amounts." Please advise?

Thanks,

Thanks for coming back for more support, @hafiz-sysilscorp. QuickBooks uses certain accounts as default accounts.

Sales tax is one of the default accounts created when you set it up and report it in each transaction. This is why you're unable to inactivate it.
