I regularly deliver goods without an invoice (partial fulfillment). The invoice is issued later. What is the best way to register this without issuing an invoice in QBO?

I regularly deliver goods without an invoice (partial fulfillment). The invoice is issued later. What is the best way to register this without issuing an invoice in QBO?

You can record it as an estimate. This is not a posting transaction so it won't affect your books. Then, you can convert it into an invoice once you delivered the goods. You can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the + New button and select Estimate.
  2. Select the Customer and enter the details needed.
  3. Click Save and close.

Once you need to convert it into an invoice, simply go to  + New button and choose Invoice. Select the Customer and all the estimates you've created will appear at the right side of the invoice page.

 

You can also create a progress invoice which means you can split one estimate into multiple invoices. This is applicable especially that you'll partially fulfill your customer's order. Please check this article for more details:
