Hi @SOGM,
I am sorry to share that currently there is not a way to show the tax percentage or amount per line item on an invoice. I must ask though outside of taxable and non-taxable do you have a use case that would require this? In general, once a tax rate is established it is the same rate across all taxable goods.
If you really need to vary the tax rate per item, I would suggest creating an item called Sales Tax which connects back to your sales tax payable account. Then I would create a bundle item that includes your product or service that is considered taxable along with the sales tax item. This would allow you to make the sales tax amount variable. I should warn though that this process can easily mess up your sales tax reporting if not managed correctly!
Here is a video I created some time ago about creating bundles:
Hello,
Thanks for your reply.
I have managed to change the tax rate to just show 5% on the invoice, however it is mandatory to show the tax amount after it. I have attached a PDF showing the rules of the invoice when invoicing a Semi-government / government client in the UAE.
As you can see in the attachment, the "Tax Due" column example area needs to be added in our invoices.
Thanks,
Let me share additional information, @SOGM.
You can enable the tax summary feature, so you'll be able to display the tax details on the invoice.
Here's how:

No - the summary and the percentage on the line items is fine. What the OP (and I now) are talking about is in the UAE, Net Value, Vat Percentage AND Vat value by line item. Meaning the invoice needs to show pre tax value, tax percentage, tax value and gross value in each line item. Without this detail we are not getting paid. I for one have had to go outside of QBO and re make invoices in excel to comply with this regulation.
Below is what was sent to me by a client (I am pasting here for your reference – this is with regard to UAE VAT regulation)
Full Invoices: -
Where full tax invoices are issued, line items have to show the tax value and net value.
Full invoices requirements:
Additionally my invoice was returned with the following comment
NON COMPLIANT DOESN’T FOLLOW FULL VALUE INVOICE FORMAT, THEY NEED TO SHOW VAT AMOUNT ON A LINE BY LINE BASIS.
I believe that this isnt possible in QBO currently - whats the best way to get this to the powers that be at QB so that they can look into adding this option. If it doesnt get done reasonably quickly, I will need to look at other services/software.
I appreciate you for adding more details, @sid77.
Currently, an option to show the information you need for each line item is still unavailable. As a workaround, you can utilize the Description box, then fill in the details manually on an invoice.
I appreciate your input on this feature, and I'll make sure to let our product engineers know about your suggestion. We always update the features in QuickBooks Online, and it's possible to add this preference in the future.
