Hello, I've been asked by a client to fill out a W-9 form from QuickBooks so he can track payments and taxes. The challenge is that QuickBooks is requesting information that is specific to the U.S., but I'm based in the Philippines. This means that some of the details they're asking for don't apply to me.
Thank you for posting here in the Community, @rainrain18.
Form W-9 is used when they need your name, address, TIN or Social Security number. They'll use this form to request the TIN of a U.S. person (including a resident alien) and to request certain certifications and claims for exemption. For more information about W-9s see Instructions for the Requester of Form W-9.
If you're not a US resident, you may need to fill out an I-9 form. As you're from the Philippines, it's best to ask your employer or get in touch with the IRS to determine which form applies to you. This will ensure that you comply with the necessary requirements and regulations. Check out the following article about filling out an I-9 form: Set up your employee that isn’t a U.S. citizen.
Here's more information about filling out a W-9 and viewing your 1099-MISC in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
I'm always here if you need further information about Form W-9. Let me know by leaving a reply below. Keep safe, and have a wonderful day!
