The online banking feature helps businesses to easily categorize transactions. Let me help you in fixing the issue you're experiencing.
It's great that you're able to link it. Although, we need to ensure that your bank is not having any system maintenance. That would cause connection errors that's why the transactions aren't downloaded.
You can also manually update it to help in bringing in the transactions. Go to the Banking page and click the Update button.
Additionally, you can check this link: What to do if you get a bank error or can't download transactions. This will discuss further how to fix banking issues especially if you encountered errors.
Once everything's good, you can now categorise and match online the bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.
