Using Receipts tracker QBO always defaults to Receipt entry rather than Bill, when you change the type to Bill it loses the supplier name, can you set default to Bill?

Whether you drag and drop or email a supplier invoice, will QBO always create a receipt rather than a bill?

Using Receipts tracker QBO always defaults to Receipt entry rather than Bill, when you change the type to Bill it loses the supplier name, can you set default to Bill?

Hello there, jm.

I am pleased to provide information about changing the document type when uploading your receipts in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

QBO automatically creates transactions and gets information on the uploaded receipt.

Since it automatically creates receipts instead of bills. Then, maybe the information detected by the system applies to a receipt type of transaction.

If the automated transaction is incorrect, that's the time that we need to review the transaction and enter the correct details. You can also match it if QuickBooks finds existing transactions in your books that match your uploaded receipts.

Additionally, the option to make the Bill as the default is unavailable, you can only change the type manually.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu.
  2. Choose Receipts.
  3. Upload a receipt.
  4. Locate the receipt that you upload and click Review from the Action column.
  5. From the Document Type dropdown, choose Bill.
  6. Enter the information needed.
  7. If you need to add more info about the bill, you can utilize the Memo field.
  8. Then, click Save and Next or Save and Close.

To learn more about uploading receipts and matching them to an existing transaction, refer to this article: Upload your receipts to QuickBooks Online. This article is for the US version of QuickBooks but the steps still apply to QBO Global users.

If you want to add attachments to your transactions in QBO, you can check out this article for future reference: Add or delete attachments in QuickBooks Online.

I'm just a post away if you have clarification or additional information about handling receipts and bills in QuickBooks.
