How can i restore a backup created from desktop quickbooks into the online quickbooks

Hey there, @mazimacdi-gmail-.

Welcome and congratulations on your new system! I'm here to share information about importing your file to QuickBooks Online (QBO). This way, you can continue running your business in no time.

Which QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) country version do you have? Is it US or UK? Do you need to migrate data to the QBO International version?

If you're using QBDT US, you can move your data to the QBO US version. You'll need to open the file in the Desktop version, then import it to QBO. If you no longer have the QBDT software, you can install our trial version, where you can restore the backup copy. Know that there are limitations when you convert your file. That includes the attachments, audit trail, and recurring transactions.

Here's how:

  1. Restore the backup copy.
  2. Click the Company menu.
  3. Choose Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.

  4. Select Start your export.
  5. Sign in as an admin to your QuickBooks Online company.
  6. Follow the next on-screen instructions.

Once done, I'd recommend running the Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet reports to ensure that you transferred your data correctly. To verify your reports in both products, filter the date period to All Dates and the accounting method to Accrual. For more information, check out this article: What to Do After Converting from QBDT for Windows to QBO.

To get your data transferred from QBDT to QBO International, you'll need a third-party conversion tool. You can visit our Intuit App Center to look for an app that may help you migrate your data.

Here's how:

  1. Go to https://desktop.apps.com/home.
  2. From the QuickBooks Compatibility section, choose the QuickBooks Desktop version you're using.
  3. Type in the clue word of the specific app you're looking for in the Search field and click the magnifying glass to search.

For QBDT UK, we’ve temporarily paused the migrations. We’re working on a new service to help make your transfer as smooth as possible. In the meantime, you can manually move your data across using the open balance method. I suggest checking these articles for more info:

Please notify me how the conversion goes. I’ll be more than happy to help if you need further assistance with managing your company files. Simply press the Reply button to add your questions or concerns. Keep safe!
