What QB Desktop country version do you have? US, UK or CA?
Where is your company located?
Hi, LA-VILLA-HILLS.
Migrating your QuickBooks Desktop backup file to the QuickBooks Online (web version) is possible, but you cannot directly upload the backup file (.QBB) to QuickBooks Online. You will first need to open your backup file in QuickBooks Desktop and then export the data to QuickBooks Online from the Desktop application.
Restore the backup file in QuickBooks Desktop first. Here's how:
1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
2. Go to File > Open or Restore Company.
3. Select Restore a backup copy and click Next.
4. Choose Local Backup and browse for your .QBB file.
5. Follow the prompts to restore your company file.
Ensure the file is ready for export.
- To do this: Go to File > Utilities > Condense Data.
Once your company file is restored and ready, you can import it into QuickBooks Online.
1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
2. In QuickBooks Desktop, go to Company > Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.
* If you don't see this option, update QuickBooks Desktop.
3. Choose whether to include inventory (QBO uses FIFO inventory valuation).
4. Select the QBO account for data import; migration may take time based on file size.
5. Receive a confirmation email once the transfer is complete.
All set. You can now import your QuickBooks Desktop backup file into QuickBooks Online.
