Bookkeeping in QB, but a 3rd party POS system, with in person and online sales

My company currently only has one customer as we sub-contract all our work to them and they do the direct-to-customer sales. But we are about to change that and start selling services and products directly to customers.

We currently do all of our bookkeeping in Quickbooks Online, and with no inventory to keep up with, it's pretty simple. Once we start selling, we will be doing both online and in-person sales, with at least the online sales being through (most likely) Shopify on our website.

How do I bring the online sales into Quickbooks online without looking like I've duplicated sales? Or is there a way to bring in the numbers without the transactions so I can still do accurate reporting?

And what about the inventory? If I sell online and in-store, how would I keep my inventory synchronized across both systems?

You can connect Shopify to QuickBooks Online (QBO). It'll automatically import your sales, order details, and inventory to QuickBooks. This way, you don’t need to enter them manually.

To access Shopify directly within your QBO account, visit our App center. Here's how:

Go to the Apps menu from your left pane.
Under Find Apps, enter "Shopify for QuickBooks Online" in the field.
Follow onscreen instructions to integrate Shopify with QBO.

Consider having a 3rd party inventory management app as the connector to integrate QBO and Shopify. You may start exploring from these options.

There is one 3rd party app I've been eyeing, but if Shopify already integrates directly with QuickBooks, why get a 3rd party app? Wouldn't that just make it unnecessarily complicated?

You should compare the features and pick only one of the connectors (i.e a merely connector or an inventory management app).
