How can I unmatch banking transaction to journal?

I've accidentally matched a transaction 3 times to a journal entry. For some reason though when I go to "Online Banking Matches" I can clearly see the deposit listed 3 times, but there is no green "Unmatch" button. The amount also makes no sense as it is not even close to anything in the journal entry itself. How can I unmatch this?

How can I unmatch banking transaction to journal?

Categorising bank transactions helps ensure accuracy on your books, QuickBooks. I can provide input when managing these entries.

If there isn't an option to unmatch the transactions linked from the Online Banking Matches, you can manually Undo them from the Action column to disconnect the entries. Thus, the original downloaded entry will return to the For Review tab to find the correct match.

To do these:

  1. In your QBO account, go to the Transactions menu and select Bank Transactions.
  2. Choose the tile for the bank or credit card account from which you downloaded the transaction.
  3. Click on the Categorized tab and find the transaction you want to unmatch.
  4. Select the blue transaction link in the Added or Matched column to review the matched transaction.
  5. Once done, click on the Undo option.

However, if you're still unable to unmatch the entry or the Undo option isn't applicable, you can perform some troubleshooting steps to help fix the possibility of a browser issue.

You'll want to access your account in a private browser to ensure the program runs without storing cache files. Refer to these keyboard shortcuts:

  • For Google Chrome browser: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • For Mozilla Firefox browser: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • For Safari browser: Command + Shift + N

Once everything comes in handy, it’s best to regularly review and reconcile your accounts to ensure they always match your bank and credit card statements.
