Is it possible to rearrange order of Custom Fields in reports and tables so they display in a logical order, rather than the order they were added?

This is within the Custom Field itself (i.e. order the values show in a drop down list) and also where the custom field can be shown in a table (e.g., Customers).

Is it possible to rearrange order of Custom Fields in reports and tables so they display in a logical order, rather than the order they were added?

Hello, @bmacnaceardadh. I’d be more than happy to share my insights on rearranging custom fields in reports within QuickBooks Online.

If you're referring to automatically rearranging the order of values displayed in a dropdown list for a Custom Field, QuickBooks Online currently does not offer this functionality. However, you can manually rearrange the dropdown values by following these steps:

1.Navigate to the Custom Fields page.

2.Select the relevant field and click Edit.

3.Reorganize the dropdown values in the desired order and save your changes.

Alternatively, if the dropdown list order is critical, you can create a new Custom Field with the values entered in the preferred logical order. Once done, you can make the old Custom Field inactive to avoid confusion.

If you’re referring to something else feel free to provide more information about what you're trying to achieve. I'll be happy to offer more specific guidance based on your needs.

Thanks for the response but I might be missing something as I fail to see how this is a solution:

1. The values under the custom fields can not be resorted

2. Renaming would change the value assigned to the item (e.g. Customer Record)

3. Creating a new field with the same values, albite resorted to a logical order would result in

     a. Multiple custom fields with the same values

     b. Multiple fields would mean both fields are present and therefore can not be used to get a complete list or

     c. All previously entered transactions would need the new field populated.

4. It does not consider the fact that additional values will be added in the future, resulting in the same illogical order issues.

5. There are only a limited number of custom fields allowed.

QuickBooks initially launched custom fields with the announcement that Tags would be archived.  We pivoted to ensure information and reports can be run by Custom Fields. QB seems to have failed to develop Custom Fields since it announced the change to main Tags as a feature. I feel like, the lack of reporting capabilities using Custom Fields and the fact that Custom Fields and their values remain ordered by the way they are added is a poor design feature that QB needs to address. Clients who adapted to the announcement of a Custom Field only solution should not be punished with sloppy data and poor reporting.
