How do I create a report of expenses that are recorded with the customer's name but not flagged as billable?

I'm glad to see you here in the Community, Michael! Let's work together to customise a report that will provide the information you need.

The Transaction Detail report in QuickBooks provides a detailed overview of all financial transactions. We'll customise this report to summarise expenses associated with customers' names.

First, open the report by following these steps:

  1. On the left navigation panel, go to Reports.
  2. Look for Transaction Detail by Account.
  3. Click on the report.

Afterwards, select the date range for the report period. Then, if you prefer to use the Classic view, use these steps to tailor the report:

  1. On the report page, click Customise.
  2. In the Filter section, tick Transaction Type and choose Expenses on the dropdown menu. You may also include other expense transactions, such as cheques and bills.
  3. Then, press Change columns in the Rows/Column section.
  4. Select these columns:
    • Date
    • Transaction Type
    • Memo/Description
    • Supplier
    • Customer
    • Amount
  5. Hit Run report.

On the other hand, if you prefer to use the Modern reporting view, please follow these steps to fine-tune the report to your liking:

  1. On the report page, set the Report period and click Customise report.
  2. Go to Filter and select Transaction type on the first dropdown, equals on the second, and Expense on the third.
  3. Head to Customise report again, and go to Columns.
  4. Select these columns:
    • Date
    • Transaction Type
    • Memo/Description
    • Supplier
    • Customer
    • Amount

The report should update every time you make a change. Once done, you'll have a report tailored to your business needs. You can also customise it further and even memorise its settings to save time the next time you need to run the same report.

I'll also include this article on exporting your QuickBooks reports and lists in case you need it: Export reports, lists, and other data from QuickBooks Online.

It's my goal to help you stay on top of your tasks, may it be in running reports or anything else QuickBooks-related. If you have any other concerns or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know through the comment section. I'll circle back to you as soon as I can. Have a productive day!
