Revising the GST Filed Amount

Under the 'GST/HST Exception Report', a "Line 103 GST/HST collected or collectible" is showing an incorrect FILED AMOUNT.  How do I revise this?

Revising the GST Filed Amount

Thanks for coming back, jastolfi.

The steps provided by my colleague are for adjusting a GST payment. For an exception from the previous filing period that is being added, we can adjust it when preparing a return. Here's how:

  1. Go to Taxes.
  2. Find the tax period you need to adjust, then select Prepare return.
  3. Tap Adjust against the entry to be adjusted.
  4. Select the Adjustment date and the Tax rate.
  5. Choose the Adjustment account for adjusting sales tax.
  6. Enter the Adjustment amount.
  7. Enter notes in Memo, then press Save.

Tax can get complicated. If you have questions, reach out to your accountant or tax agency for adjusting the exception from the previous filing period. If the same thing happens where it's not affecting the Exception's value, I'd suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They can provide some information on how to properly manage this kind of issue. To reach them, please follow the steps below:

  1. Click the (?) Help icon.
  2. From the QB Assistant enter the topic you need help with. You can also enter questions.
  3. Choose Contact Us to connect with a live support agent.
  4. Select Chat.

Revising the GST Filed Amount

Hello and thank you for reaching out to us in the Community, jastolfi.

I'd like to share some steps on how you can revise the amount.

To make sure all the numbers are accurate on the report, you can either create an adjustment or delete the GST payment. Before doing so, please reach out to your accountant or tax agency for advise. They'll be able to give you the best accounting advice for your business.

To make an adjustment, here's how:

  1. Go to Taxes on the left navigation menu.
  2. Under Returns tab, select Tax Adjustment. The Journal Entry # window opens. Use this when you need to decrease or increase the amount of tax payment for things like credits, discounts, fines, interest, penalties, and corrections for rounding errors.
  3. Enter the adjustment amount and reason for the adjustment. You can enter a positive or negative amount.
  4. Click Save and close.

For deleting the payment, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go back to Taxes and select the Payments tab.
  2. Find the payment and click the drop-down menu next to View then select Delete.
  3. Hit Yes to confirm. Note: After you delete a payment, the page doesn't refresh automatically. Leave and come back to the GST menu. The payment shouldn't appear anymore.

In addition, you can check out this article for reference and to help manage your GST tax: Manage GST payments in QuickBooks Online.

Revising the GST Filed Amount

Thank you @RenjolynC for the prompt response, and please accept my apologies if I failed to convey a critical piece of information related to the issue.

I am not seeking to make a change to a past filing, but rather in preparing a current return there is an exception from the previous filing period that is being added.  I tried the 'adjust' option for Line 103, but it doesn't affect the 'Exceptions' value, only 'Amount' value.

Thank you @RCV , I got that to work.  It's not the accurate fix I was hoping for, and I still don't understand why transactions from a previous filing are showing up, but it will have to do for now.
