Editing income account on transactions imported from Square

I have successfully set up the Connect to Square app to import transactions from Square and matched them with bank transactions. But all the Square transactions are simply set to Square Item and go into the same income account. I take it I can change this if the items are purchased as set item in Square itself. But is there any way I can edit individual transactions within Quickbooks to assign them to a different purchase account?

Editing income account on transactions imported from Square

Hello there, jsupple.

Yes. In QuickBooks Online (QBO), we can edit individual transactions to a different purchase account.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu and then App Transactions.
  2. Click the Square Gear icon.
  3. Select the Items or Advanced tab.
  4. Tap the edit pencil icon.
  5. From the drop-down arrow, you can change the account.

Additionally, you can check this article that you might find helpful when matching and managing your downloaded transactions: Categorise and match online bank transactions.

Editing income account on transactions imported from Square

Thanks but this only allows you to change the default transaction account for all Square items that are unnamed, it doesn't allow individual transactions to be edited. I can't see a way to do that.

Editing income account on transactions imported from Square

Hello jsupple,

Thanks for getting back to us.

When you import sales transactions from Square to QuickBooks, they are added as "Square Item" by default. This item is mapped to a specific income account in your chart of accounts, which helps you track your sales revenue more efficiently. To change the account the Square Item maps to:

  1. Click on the Sales and select Products & services.
  2. In the Find products and services field, search for Square Item.
  3. Under the Action column, select Edit.
  4. In the Income account dropdown menu, select the income account you want Square sales to record to.
  5. Tick box to update historical transactions.
  6. Select Save and close.

These steps should help you edit the income account for Square transactions in QuickBooks Online. Let me know if you need further assistance.
