Line 74. Please contact your software developer. The file contains an illegal character at end of last record. How to know which one is line 74?

Hi there, kc90. Let me share some information about the issue you're having.

To be able to guide you on locating Line 74, can you tell me more about the actions you've performed? Are you trying to import suppliers to QuickBooks Online? I would also greatly appreciate it if you could post a screenshot of the error.

When inputting a supplier's name in QBO, it's important to make sure that the characters you use are acceptable to QBO. If you enter any unacceptable characters, it may result in a server error or other issues within the program. To avoid this, I can provide you with a list of characters that are acceptable by QBO.

  • Alphanumeric: A-Z, a-z, 0-9
  • Comma: ,
  • Full stop: .
  • Question mark: ?
  • At symbol: @
  • Ampersand: &
  • Exclamation mark: !
  • Number/hash sign: #
  • Single quote: '
  • Tilde: ~
  • Asterisk: *
  • Space: ( )
  • Underscore: _
  • Dash/hyphen: -
  • Semicolon: ;
  • Plus sign: +

In addition, you can check your customers, employees, or items if you've inputted some invalid characters in their names.

For more details and information, you can check this article: Acceptable characters in QuickBooks Online.

If the error persists, we can open your QBO account in a private or incognito browsing mode. There are times when our browser's cache can become filled and cause issues when working with your account. Using these browsing modes will help your computer run optimally and regain some storage space to continue working seamlessly.

See these keyboard shortcuts to open a private window:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

Also, you can try clearing your cache and ensuring that you're using the supported version so you can run the program without any concerns.

You can check this article if you want to personalize your sales form: Customise invoices, quotes, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Don't hesitate to get back to us if you have further concerns about the error message you're seeing in QBO. We'll always be glad to assist you.

Hi SheandL,

Thank you for your reply.

While downloading the TPAR from the QBO, there are no error messages. QBO only allows to download TPAR once the supplier profile has all the info. I only know about the errors upon lodging it with the ATO, prior to it no issue whatsoever. The validation report that I get from the ATO says line 74 and some other time 73, 72.

I went through all the suppliers profile to see if there is any invalid characters, plus downloaded TPAR in PDF format to check for it and there is no such invalid characters. I have lodged the case with QBO support and waiting hear back from them. I hope they can help me resolve the issue.

Regards,
