When importing an inventory file is there some way to include 'category'?

A browser-related issue might have caused when entering a reply, david245.    

 

You can access the Community and enter your response through a private browser. To open one, you can use these keyboard shortcuts:    

 

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

You can also import your list using this browser to avoid unusual response or error. If you're able to successfully save your response and import your list, you can switch back to the iman browser and clear the cache. Other supported browsers can also help you isolate these kinds of issues.     

 

To edit an item and add a Category within QuickBooks, you can follow these steps: 

 

  1. From the Sales menu, click Product and Services.
  2. Look for the imported item and click Edit.
  3. Select a Category.
  4. Click Save and close.

Hi Catherine,

You absolutely can include Categories (&Sub Categories) during an import by following the simple instructions in the link posted by 

The really disappointing part was QB support not advising me of this when I contacted them to ensure my import/update would not create duplicate records (which it did)

I have just finished, at 8pm, a job I started at 2:30pm which should have taken much less than an hour.

Someone needs to update the available help around importing to include the critical and seriously helpful info found at the link mentioned above.

Only up side was I had a hundreds, not thousands, of records to fix
