Hi samantha12,
The Reclassify Transactions feature allows you to bulk reassign GST codes for historical transactions.
Please note: this feature is only available to Accountant users, if you are not an accountant/bookkeeper then please reach out to your one so they can perform this task.
If you do not have one, you can find one using our Find A ProAdvisor portal here - https://quickbooks.intuit.com/au/find-a-proadvisor/
Let us know if you still need any help.
Kristian.
Hi Kristian
I have an admin login but I am also the company accountant. Am I able to be both an admin and accountant user?
It's good to see you here, @samantha12,
QuickBooks will not allow the same email for both Company Admin and Accountant view. Once you set up the same address as an accountant user, the system will automatically switch your profile to the QBOA version.
If you need to make any changes as the accountant, use only that login to reclassify any transactions. The steps are outlined in this article: Reclassify or move multiple transactions at once
Kindly update me on how it goes. I want to make sure this is resolved and I'll be right here if you need anything about QuickBooks transactions and others. Have a good one!
Hi. Sorry I am a bit confused. I need to be able to make these bulk changes. Are you suggesting I disconnect my admin user and reconnect as an accountant. We already have 2 accountant users and our QBO will not allow me to invite in another. If I was to do this do I lose any of my functionalities as an admin when I switch to accountant?
Hi Samantha12,
Thank you for getting back to us on this.
I would suggest working with the existing accountant users in your QuickBooks Online on this as they would have the reclassification function under their current access.
Thank you and please let us know if you require any additional assistance.
Hi, Im using a standard version of Quickbooks and cant find the reclassify tools to change GST codes on multiple transactions. Please help
Hello biyv,
The Reclassify transactions tool is only available in the QuickBooks Online for Accountant version.
If you have an accountant that uses QuickBooks Online for Accountants, you can add them as an accountant user in your QuickBooks file and, they can reclassify your transactions. Otherwise, you'll have to edit your transactions one by one to change the GST..
You can check this article about how the reclassify tool and how to add an accountant:
If you have more questions with QuickBooks Online, please feel free to reach out to us at any time.
Open a QBO Accountant account with another email address and invite it as Accountant. Otherwise, you have to use a migration tool to modify your data in bulk.

Is there any logical reason why only accountants have access to this feature?
I would like to be able to do this myself.
Hi there robynshome,
The Reclassify transactions tool is a feature exclusive for QuickBooks Online Accountants only. This is to ensure that the transactions reclassified are correct and to avoid messing up your books.
I can see how helpful it is for you and your business to have the reclassify transactions under regular small business accounts. If you have feedback about the software, you can send your thoughts through the Gear Icon, and click on Feedback in your account. This goes straight to our product development team for updates.
In the meantime if you have an accountant that uses QuickBooks Online for Accountants you can add them as an accountant user in your QuickBooks Online account to help you reclassify your transactions. If none, you can find an accountant through this link Find a ProAdvisor.
As always you can reach out to us in the Community to help you. Have a nice day!
The responses given require using an accountant which means more expense and time wasted when it should be available to business users as should be access to general ledger items. There are probably issues with allowing this due to possible tax department implications for accidently or intentionally corrupting the data stream but isn't that what the audit log is for??
