Input Tax Rate on Quickbooks is set to 0%

Just noted that the Inpuit Tax rate is set to 0% on Quickbooks, after trying to enter transaction with Input Tax. Also found that the rates cannot be changed now as they are supposedly automatically aligned to ATO set rates, as described by the online support person.

Anyone having the same issue with the 0% Input Tax rate set in Quickbook? Any resolution?

Input Tax Rate on Quickbooks is set to 0%

Hi maxmelb,

The actions we can take in editing GST tax rates in QuickBooks Online is to turn them on and off. Editing or adding new tax rates is unavailable in the current offerings right now.

Can you tell me more about the transaction you wanted to set tax code to input tax rate? So we can check the options available in QuickBooks Online.

You can check this link to learn more about how to; Change custom GST rates.

Keep me posted if you have other concerns or questions. I'll get back to help you the best that I can.

Thank you for your response, maxmelb.

I understand that you would like to enter a 10% input tax on a transaction. As of the moment, Input Tax rate in QuickBooks Online is set to 0%. I would recommend to please consult an accountant to confirm the correct tax code to be used for this transaction. This is to ensure accuracy on your recording and on tax reporting. If you don't have an accountant, you can find one near you through this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/au/find-a-proadvisor/.

Feel free to post again if you have any other questions, we're here to help.

Input Tax Rate on Quickbooks is set to 0%

Hi maxmelb,

We totally understand that your business needs the option to have 10% rate for Input tax. Unfortunately, QuickBooks Online doesn't have that feature available yet but it's actually a great idea and it’s gonna be useful as well for some of our customers who have unique business needs. So, here's what we're going to do, please send us a product feedback through the in-product feedback option on your end and I'll take down of this as well so that I will be able to personally send this over to our engineering team.

  1. Click on the Settings Icon.
  2. Click on Feedback.
  3. Enter a few details.
  4. Click on Next.

Ridiculous answer Quickbooks!

You USED to have an input tax code rate, that's now been removed.

So where has it gone? You can't just remove a feature like this and not instruct people on the correct way to classify input taxed transactions, which are REQUIRED to be recorded as such by the ATO.

These need to be reported as input taxed transactions. How do you suggest these are now recorded in your software?

Input Tax Rate on Quickbooks is set to 0%

Hello Fotini,

Thanks for joining the thread.

I can see how important for you and your business to be able to use the Input tax 10% GST code. It's at the moment this is unavailable in the current offerings. Also, as per checking your concern the default input tax code has always been set to 0% unless you were able to set a custom tax code previously.

Here is an article that is very old (from 2015) and it shows Input tax code as 0%. It also has information on custom tax codes which are not supported by our new GST experience. https://quickbooks.intuit.com/au/blog/product-update/setting-up-gst-in-quickbooks-online/

If you require further assistance, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team through the HELP icon in your QBO file and click on Contact Us, select Chat or Phone support.

Post again in the Community if you have further concerns about QuickBooks Online.
