Yes I'm having issues with the direct connection. It doesn't appear to have an option for AMEX Australia. I try the AMEX (US) link (and tried all of them for good measure) but the US ones logs in then says it can find any accounts. It appears that AUD AMEX isn't recognised.

I bet you're using the words "AMEX Australia" or "AUD AMEX" when connecting your account to QuickBooks Online. Instead, you can search "American Express (Australia)". This should give you the link for AMEX Australia. You can refer to the screenshot below.
From there, you should be able to log in and connect your account to QuickBooks Online. You can use these articles as your guide to do it successfully:
